any advice

Post by w2dodge » Fri Jun 29, 2012 1:10 pm

Memorial Day wknd i had the pw on a turkey hunt...tried to engage the lockers front and back....my truck when driven approx 40 miles + the serv 4wd and rr lights start...and when the truck is off for a few hours the lights go off..i changed front and rear diff fluids, cleaned the mgnts etc,i posted it on d/t..and the lockers engaged after the fluid change...from that Memorial wknd the lights stayed on,so i took it to the dealer..when i got home...sway bar , rear actuator...they say..for 5 weeks had nothing done at the dealer no parts or even tools...bunch of bs..i picked the truck up this morning headed to another deal which i explained everything previous day.....started the pw no lights.. nothing went on for the whole trip..pulled in the lot went on some dirt and everything worked and went on fine ..fast...spoke to the service rep what i did on the lot..i took the pw home...sway bar connection looks good...WTF ...can some one tell me what to look for ...or do..thanks

Usually when it is an intermittent problem, there is corrosion, bad ground or a wire rubbed bare somewhere. But not always. Are you SURE you didn't dislodge the magnets when you cleaned them ? Or maybe a sensor, like the one on the transfer case, goes bad.

 While it was apart, you didn't touch the connections with anything that conducts electricity did you ? :jawdrop: Gunnipwguy did that & it fried the actuators. Then he was seen doing this ! :cash:

:secret: Don't use anything that conducts electricity near your locker when diff cover is off. :secret: It may be wise to disconnect the battery before servicing the diffs. Gunni says so.

I use q-tip around electronics, used prep all in the case.after the cleaning I made sure they engaged, well when the lights go back on straight to the dealer...hes waiting for the tool for the actuator..

How are all the connections and grounds to the TIPM?

The problems that I had recently were all traced to a loose connection in there.
It's voodoo in there, btw.
