Bullydog GT, Magnaflow 24" Muffler and Y-Pipe, Airaid CAI

In the fall of last year I put 315/70/17 Kelly Safari TSR tires on my 2011. Because I tow a 26' travel trailer that weighs close to 8,000lbs loaded I wanted to keep the truck feeling like it had the same amount of power it did with the factory size tires.

Very shortly after I put the tires on I bought a Bullydog GT and with the 91 tune it made the truck feel like it had the same power as it did with the stock tires. However, my fuel economy was down by about 7% with the bigger tires and even with the Bullydog that didn't change.

So this spring I went two steps further and installed an Airaid CAI (the one that comes with a new intake tube), a Magnaflow 24" muffler and a Magnaflow y-pipe. I had done the same combo (tuner, CAI and exhaust) in my 2009 Titan and it really made a nice difference in power while towing. I am happy to report that adding the CAI, exhaust and y-pipe on top of the Bullydog on my 2011 PW has made the same positive impact!

Now, my fuel economy in regular city and highway driving is just as good as it was when the truck had the factory size tires and is about 5% BETTER when towing the travel trailer. The truck feels like it has more power than it did when it had the factory tires and no power adding mods, and it definitely pulls stronger with the trailer in tow.

In short, I would highly recommend this combo. The only downside is the CAI has some resonation noise at 2700-2900 rpm under mid throttle. Other than that the sound is awesome on both the CAI and the exhaust.

Nice! You'll notice an even bigger change if you remove all of those mods. I had a Diablo with custom tune, ported TB, LMI intake tube with drop in AEM filter, shorty headers, Y pipe, and Magnaflow 24" muffler. All of this is off now with the exception of the Y pipe and muffler, and the truck feels like a slug. It really is amazing how much these mods help.

I have been debating on a tuner with Hemi-Fever tweaks, just can't part with the money.

I hear throttle response, shifting and the overall manners of the truck are night and day better. I'm a little worried about that lifetime powertrain warranty though!

Myoung84 what did you do with your tuner? I know it won't fit my truck I'm just curious how you went on selling it, stock tune etc.

If someone on here got it how do they like it?

I don't have the Bullydog but I just received my Diablo Intune I-1000 with the hemifever addition. Like it's mentioned above...night and day difference. I was worried about the warranty as well but that's one of the selling points of today's tuners, that they retain your stock programming and restore the license to the truck if you need to take it in. I just dropped my truck off yesterday morning at the dealership to have an exhaust leak checked out and fixed. The first thing they did was bring a computer(IPAD looking deal) and plug it into the OPD11 plug that the tuner plugs up to. I was waiting for the guy to turn around and ask if I've messed with the truck or even worse, turn around and tell me my warranty is voided because they can tell that it has been but nope...turned and said that they'll get it in the shop and taken care of. So that's testament to the tuner and their guarantee to restore factory settings in order to maintain your warranty.

Did you reload the stock tune before going into the dealer? Or did you just chance it?

One of the things I like about Sean's tune is that it is a modified original OEM tune and not a canned tune w/o the truck specific information like the canned tunes from Diablo. This is why you must put a canned tune into your truck and send Sean the OEM file to be modified.

My question to Sean was... "Can the dealer find out if I have used a your tune or not... even if I reload the stock tune?"

Sean @ Hemi Fever in answer to my above question said... " I guess if the dealer really dug much as they could to look for a changed item on the truck they could eventually find it. I'd recommend finding a dealer that is more "mod friendly"

So I'm a little worried for sure. My first month with no truck payment will likely to mysteriously go to buy one of these. Only two months to go I'm a cheap bastard so I will only be using the 87 octane tune except for really really really rare times I suppose.

No, I reloaded the stock tune in order to avoid any potential issues.

Once I received the tuner and did the updates on my pc, I plugged it into my truck and sent Sean the info he needed and he sent me back a modified 87 and 93 octane tune with some instructions on what else he wanted in order to build the custom hemi tune around my truck's performance parameters. I won't be able to do this until the weekend considering I had that exhaust leak that I mentioned.

I don't think the dealers are looking for anymore than the info they need to have the work order processed for service. I'm sure if it's huge, expensive, recurring issue than they might start digging.

So far so good. Anxious to get the last tune complete as that was the one I paid extra for. Just didn't want to send him all the info he requested with an exhaust leak hurting my overall performance and output. Should be fixed by tomorrow at the latest and than it's on. Plus I'm making a trip to Texas at the end of June so I'll really get to see how well the MPG booster tune does for me.

Play around with it some. I've found I actually get better mpg "in town" with the 93 Hemi tune but I'm also running 37's. It's gets the best on the hwy around 55mph with the Booster tune and then drops from there but still WAY better than where I was at. It's a must if you go to a bigger tire. I'm going to leave it alone and try to forget about the mpg and just drive like I want to for the next tank or so and see what my overall/everyday average is. I'm suspecting low 14's...

I returned the tuner to the stock tune and I'll be keeping it for the new truck. I'll put a few hundred miles on it and tune it up!
