So my A/C sucks
I'm going to do the usual - check the pressure and check to see if the clutch is working but was wondering if there were any parts that are more prone to failure than others on Dodges. Also is there anything that I should try to clean other than the condenser (the part by the radiator)?
Re: So my A/C sucks
Sounds like you have a hole in the system somewhere and you lost 134A.
My 2005 Power Wagon still kicks out cold air like it did when I picked it up in 2005. In fact folks still complement the air conditioning system on it and how fast I can cool off a large black truck
Go get the system dyed and tested, you likely have a hole somewhere.

Re: So my A/C sucks
If all that don't work, you may want to investigate the "heater core bypass." Some have said that it has reduced the temp by 10-20* just by doing that.

Re: So my A/C sucks
A lot of people have had issues with the blend/mode doors. They control flow of air to vents/recirculate. Might be a good place to start.

Re: So my A/C sucks
Thanks everyone. I've done a heater core bypass on my PSDs before and it helped alot, I was just trying to avoid having to build another setup to do it the way I like. I'm going to see if it's covered under my warrenty along with a gew other things so I only have to pay the deductable once.
Re: So my A/C sucks
FWIW--I called my friendly neighborhood Dodge Dealer today. Parts dept please. put on hold for 5 min. I asked how much for a new fan clutch. He asked ME "thats for the heater core inside the cab right ?" I said NO,
its the part between the fan & the engine---in the engine compartment. 5 min of mumbling on his part. Its not called a fan clutch anymore it seems, its now called a drive fan. Not sure what it drives but he said "you must not be the only one having problems with yours (there is nothing wrong with mine, i just wanted a price) because NO ONE has them in stock on the east coast." Anyways, he asked for my last 8 of my vin #. When he found it, i asked for the part #, he said "we are not supposed to give out the part #."
WTF-over ? I asked how would he feel if he had a 50k truck & someone told him that. He finally gave me the part #, 55057111AA. He said it was $200. Upon looking at other sites, it seems that there is 3 different fan clutches avail. Standard, Heavy Duty & Severe Duty. I suspect we have the severe duty fan clutch. It kicks on sooner & stays on longer than a reg 2500. On those other sites, they were $43-$92. All a far cry from the $200 the dealer wanted. I suspect thats why they don't want the parts people to give out the part #'s, so they can't be cross referenced. Sunsabitches !!!

Yeah I'm not a fan of using the dealer for anymore than I have to but so far the one I use at least knows that my PW has differances over the regular 2500.
Re: So my A/C sucks
NAPA Part # 271621 for the Fan Clutch. I reserved it online and picked one up this evening. $60. Was cheaper then anything I could find online. It is the right now Severe Duty Reverse Rotation w/o Snow Plow.TwinStick wrote:FWIW--I called my friendly neighborhood Dodge Dealer today. Parts dept please. put on hold for 5 min. Now if I could only get the damn nut to budge..... I need to create a spanner wrench to hold the pulley in place.
