As I got my tires rotated and balanced today, I asked to see the price for some 315/70R17 tires. Come to find out, Discount Tire told me that they won't mount that tire on the Power Wagon wheel since it doesn't meet their minimum width requirement. I'm none to pleased right now since I don't want to buy aftermarket wheels and I want 35 inch tires......

I had 315/70R17 Duratracs on my last truck, with the stock wheel, and it did just fine for the life of the tires.......

atleast the 3 or 4 stores I have been to here in Ca will do just about anything, they are great. It is odd to see how the policy differs. Maybe try a different location, or when a different manager is working

8.5 - 10.0 9.50 12.7 18 34.4 607 $322
Says 8.5-10.0 approved width with 9.50 being the preferred. I think you may do well to ask for documentation on mfg rim width approval list. Our rims are 9.00" and fall safely within their width specifications. The link is on the left half way down. "View Wrangler DuraTrac tire size and specifications"

Stock rims are 17" x 8" as measured on the inside of the flange where the tire bead mounts. They are about 9" wide as measured on the outside of the rim flanges, but that doesn't count.

Yeah, looking at the Goodyear site, it states this about the MT/R with Kevlar in 315/70R17
Approved rim width: 8.5 - 10"
Measured rim with: 9.5"
So, am I screwed on this?

For the amount of time that I ran the DuraTracs, I didn't mind them. I only had about 10,000 miles on them when I traded in my truck for the Power Wagon. I will say that they were a little "soft" when taking corners/turns. Other than that, their grip was pretty impressive. By far, MILES ahead of the BFG A/T KOs...

I stand corrected...
Serves me right for trying to go by memory LOL.
Another option is the H2 wheels.
Per a wheel vendors website; Factory H2 rims are 8.5" wide, and have a
+22 mm offset. this indicates the the mounting face is 22 mm closer to
the face of the rim from center. 8.5" % 2 = 4.25" + .866" =5.116" backspace.
22 mm % 25.4 ( conversion to inch ) = .866"

Take them somewhere else. Someone will do it. There a lots of guys running a 12.50-13.50 on stock rims so it's certainly possible.

when I had my little ranger truck I mounted 33x12.5x15s on my stock rims (15x7)at midas....
they said they would do it but I had to sign a waver to not hold them responsible for blowouts of that sort. It is all about the liability with tire places now a days, to many people out there trying to screw others over

Americas tire put toyo 35/12.5/17 on my stock rims, no questions at all
America's Tire mounted mine with no questions and no issues. I ran them on stock wheels for eight years with no problems. IF you have to get new wheels (which I doubt), think about H2 wheels. They are 8.5" wide and have the internal beadlock ridge. You'll need to have the centers machined to fit the PW hubs.

Weird!!! Discount Tire mounted my 37x12.50R17 MTRKs on my stock wheels. They questioned it a littlest first but said okay! Especially after I pointed out that there are guys running 37x13.50R17 Toyo Open Countries on stock rims. (IIRC- looking up the tires' actual dimensions Toyos are actually 1.9" wider than MTRKs despite being labeled as merely 1" wider)

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
