I was under the impression that the recall was initiated to address the possible misalignment of the left tie rod end with the rest of the tie rod. This can eliminate most or all of the rotational range of the rod ends through the steering cycle, causing the sudden failure of the rod end. The misalignment can occur during the installation process if the tech doesn't pay attention. The new unit has an alignment pin in the tie rod and a fork on the rod end that engages the pin. I have seen photos of the parts.

I don't think it has anything to do with the steering stabilizer. The old Y-style steering had a bolt through the tie rod for the stabilizer. The T-style has had 2 different size u-bolts in 2 different versions. I hope they are not going back to the through- bolt style. That may affect the ability to change to an aftermarket stabilizer.

That was what my service guy told me yesterday, even though the recall notice I got in the mail says... "THE LEFT TIE ROD BALL STUD on your truck may fracture under driving conditions... The dealer will replace STEERING LINKAGE COMPONENTS."

Damn. I don't like that. Seems like a step backwards, going back to the through-bolt design.

The N62 recall is basically a repeat of the H46 recall and here is what it entails.

- First you have to have the 8.5+ T-style steering or it does not apply to you.
- Next they will check to see if you have all the relevant T-style steering updates.
- There was a recall on a bad batch of pitman arms, specific serial numbers where replaced.
- There was a new of the steering damper bracket, one with larger bolts.
- Finally they will check your left tie rod end, if installed correctly (level) nothing is done, if installed incorrectly (twisted) you get a new one, a redesigned version.

All that and I was told the entire linkage is replaced. Oh and it will all get taken care of in only 4 months from now... WTF is up with that? Guess it will give me enough time to see if it fails or not between now and then. Pretty lame of Chrysler. Hope that they throw in a new stabilizer shock if my bilstein wont work with the new linkage.

This latest recal is for the steering damper mount......if the one you have on your truck uses ubolts with a plate it will be replaced with a new tie rod with a hole for mounting the steering damper. WTF? many people have been using ubolt and plate set up for years, why does dodge or the nhsb think it won't work any more?

I know this for a fact, my truck has the 8.5 upgrade setup using ubolts for the damper. The Left tie rod end was replaced with the last recal. My truck was inspected by the dealer and the technician told me what the recal was about, there are parts on order for my truck now.....

I just had my PW in for an unrelated repair, (on 1-16-14) and the service adviser told me that most Dodge dealers didn't even have the necessary parts in for these warranty repairs. Law requires the manufacturer to advise the owners within 30 days, but the dealer has much longer then that to make the corrections.
Enjoy this life, cause it's all we're getting.

The N62 is for the Tie Rod Ball Stud and I can confirm my dealer was not ready to perform the service. Called Chrysler support and they checked and said that they had 13,000 units in the warehouse, but the dealership would have to custom order it in the interim. I am going yo call again next week to see if they can get it in. I got my notification late December 12/26 and called on 1/3.

Just got the letter in the mailbox from dodge.
" the problem is: the left tie rod ball may fracture under certain driving conditions. This could cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning."
"What your dealer will do: Chrysler will service your vehicle free of charge (parts and labour). To do this, your dealer will replace steering linkage components."

To me this means they are going to slap on a quick-fix replacement part from 2014 stock and call it good. I've had the death wobble forever and it has finally subsided after I put on dual stabilizers. Now dodge says they are going to fix a completely unrelated problem.... Thanks fellas.

My dealer called me last week to let me know they received the tie-rod ends and to let me know when I wanted to bring OX in for her recall. :D it is awesome to have a great dealer, just wish I could still say that  I am seeing the quality and customer satisfaction going down quickly at my dealer. I hope to find a great dealership in New Orleans.

this is a email i received from chrysler…

Thank you for contacting the RAM Assistance Center.

Our records indicate that the following recall campaign has not been
performed by an authorized dealer:

Recall # Description Type
Date Issued

N62 LEFT OUTER TIE ROD ASSEMBLY SAFETY 12/13/2013

Unfortunately the part required to complete the recall [N62] are on
restriction, so the dealerships are only able to order so many parts per
week. Please ensure that you contact your local Ram dealership so they
can get you in for an inspection on the steering linkage assembly, and
if required they will schedule you an appointment to come in for the
repair.
Vehicles found with original style steering linkage will be immediately
returned to the customer and no repair needed.
I have found the closest authorized dealership in your area and their
information is below:

 I have finally had enough of this shit. I gathered ALL my receipts up for my entire front end and the 3 recalls i have received---NONE OF WHICH apply to my truck according to the dealer---YET ON THE RECALL NOTICE ITSELF it says my DIN# is one of them affected & even lists my exact DIN #. This was all done while it was under warranty at 18,000 miles. It came to $3414.86 + an additional $600 for install of 2 front axle u-joints. Told them the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing & that if i did business like this, I would be OUT of business. Told them i have had nothing but problems with the front end of this truck---UNTIL i replaced it with quality parts & that it was so bad, I couldn't even keep it in my lane when pulling my camper. Now, i have no issues like i did before. I also said, thanks to them & their wonderful dealers, i now own 3 Japanese cars & my next truck (if i can ever afford one) will likely be Japanese also. I don't expect a refund at all, if they do send one, i am sure it will only be for $189.00---the cost of the left tie rod end. I am done with American vehicles PERIOD !!! They had their chance, NUMEROUS times with us. Every time, they seem to stick it up our ass every chance they can. I have had NOTHING but outstanding customer service from the Japanese dealers---IF & WHEN anything does go wrong. I can count the times on one hand between all 3 Japanese cars that anything did go wrong over a combined 253,000 miles. My truck has been in at least 10 times in 30,000 miles and has NEVER been fixed to my satisfaction.

My 2011 PW is in the recall ---- I contacted the dealer and talked with the service writer.
Rather than go all the way in, he had me take a photo of the links off the steering damper (????) and email them to him.
Then he said I failed and that I'd have to leave the truck with them all day for them to inspect; they'd order parts and then I'd bring it back in for the work.

I'm thinking that they don't know what the hell they're talking about again... ...I'm so sick of Dodge dealers and their inept staffs.

AS previously stated in this thread the latest recal is to change the steering damper mount from ubolt/plate to a through bolt. That's why they asked for a photo of the steering damper moiunt.

I just put a lifetime warranty steering damper in my truck, I wondering if they are going to change that with the new mount??/

My contact at the dealer send me a pic of one of the piles they have of the center links that will be used for the recall. They have about 30 units a week coming in. Take a look at it. Hope it puts to rest any confusion.

Just got a call from Ed, the Service Manager at Ed Voyles in Marietta ----- they have the parts on the way and I'll my PW fixed on Saturday.
With the multiple recalls happening they got their lines crossed.
He said that my damper mount was okay and it just needs the ball stud.

They're a good crew at Ed Voyles. Drew, Ed, Thomas --- thanks. Just wish they were closer....

Exactly... I also don't feel comfortable having a specialty vehicle serviced at a dealer who asks "is that based on a 2500... gas or diesel? " when I asked price on a leveling kit for a 2010 power wagon.
