I got a new Pioneer headunit. Turns out my wife does listen sometimes! I have an older Pioneer headunit that I originally bought for my 2010 but I've been wanting a new one with Bluetooth and that's what she bought (model AVH-X5500BHS). It's got a little bigger screen and has Bluetooth with Pandora built into the radio. I've gotten a little spoiled with the Jeep's Bluetooth streaming...

Having our last Christmas at the in laws this Saturday and I should have a Carli opposing steering stabilizer under the tree. I'll be glad to get rid of the left tire pull.

For the record, it wasn't UPS that delayed the floormats. My wife informed me that they were ordered late. Just being fair to UPS.

Got a couple of new toys for Christmas. First is a new Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS headunit to replace the old Pioneer headunit. There was nothing wrong with it but I got spoiled by the Bluetooth streaming I have in the Jeep. So, my wife bought this new one for me. It was a direct drop in since the wire harness was the same. Just had to change the XM tuner since they went to a different style plug and the old one wasn't compatible. The new XM tuner allows me to pause and rewind XM channels which is pretty cool. The interface has also been updated from the old one and everything is larger and more driving friendly.

Also have one more mod that I got for Christmas and one other thing that I ordered earlier this week. These will be revealed once I get them installed. I've talked about them already so you guys can probably guess. :D

Myoung, how is the radio working for you? I really don't like the factory radio in the truck (1 step up from basic, I think its the 130?). Anyway, I really like idea of having a touch screen but do not really need all the fancy bells and whistles. I was wondering if all of the factory stuff plugs in. All I actually have bluetooth option for hands free radio. I don't have steering wheel controls or anything. I was just hoping since the truck already had bluetooth that it would just about be plug and play. I have had many a aftermarket receivers in the past, but they were far less complicated. My last one had a ipod cable, I think that was about it.
The power wagon has far more gadgets in it than my 97 Camry. Anyway, I am just looking for some input on it. I also need to see if it fits in the area of my radio.

I love the new radio. As I mentioned, I already had an older model Pioneer (3 years old, it was ancient, LOL) and have had several other Pioneer radios in the past. This one has a lot of bells and whistles, including Bluetooth streaming, HD FM radio, hands free calling, iPod and Android control, etc. It's very easy to use and the screen is very intuitive. There's no need to ever open up the manual to find something. I don't use Bluetooth calling portion since I have a Bluetooth headset so I didn't even hook up the mic. I use the Pandora Bluetooth streaming a lot though.

Few more points.

1. You'll need an aftermarket harness to make it work in your truck. Just connect the radio harness to this harness and it plugs right in without the need to cut the factory wiring. You said you don't have steering wheel controls (The ones on the back of the wheel) but for those that do, you'll need a second harness for this. Both of these add about $100 to the swap. (Links below)

2. You can't utilize anything from the factory hands free calling. Once the factory radio is out, it's gone. This is all built into the new radio. I have the steering wheel buttons on the front of the wheel for the phone that are unused now. I don't use it anyways. I get much call quality from my Bluetooth headset.

3. Double din radios fit great with a slight modification to the inside of the dash. You have to remove a metal cross brass (non-functional) and do some minor plastic cutting. I've done three 4th gen trucks so far and it's super easy. No negative affects at all.

Got the dual battery just about finished, I ended up removing every aftermarket wire, and I am starting over. Bigger project than I had planned on, but I am happy I am finally doing it right.

Somehow I forgot that I also got an ARB rapid deflator (works awesome for airing down the tires to go wheeling, I've used it twice now!) and a Trasharoo bag that will be getting strapped to my tailgate when I go wheeling! I'll likely not use it for trash (I just carry a plastic bag in the bed for that) but, I will likely use it as a great place to stash all my recovery gear! That way my recovery gear will be easy to get to and easy to clean the mud off but not rolling around in the bed!
