POWER WAGON ENVY......

POWER WAGON ENVY ...... Yes sir, as most of you know, it is a REAL thing, not imagined. I used to have it. Bought my 2004 2500 QC 4x4 w/tow pkg & 4.10's just 2 weeks before the Power Wagon was released. :box: I was fightin mad. I have been subscribed to both popular 4x4 mags & saw NOTHING about them until it was released. :box: Then, I had to endure 4 MF*%#@!^ years of PWE. I finally got one & the symptoms went away. The cure of course is to get one. All smiles from ear to ear. Then the front end had to be replaced. :box: All over again. :box: Once fixed, all smiles from ear to ear again. When i have to do the steering gearbox & PS pump & T-steering, it will be :box: all over again. I love my truck when it is working like it is supposed to, but i hate that bitch when it's not.

So, i am at VALU Hardware the other day, getting hardware to fix the knife sheath i broke. I paid & walked out after being helped by the manager (to find what i was looking for). He was looking out the window & saw me walking towards my truck. :excited: He flew out the door & yelled "is that YOUR Power Wagon" ? I said yes & told him to come check it out. He did. I told him all about it. He was amazed. He told me he had a 1980 Power Wagon 150 & always wondered who owned "the red beast" of mine. We talked for an hour. Nice guy. I told him about the site. Maybe he will look us up. Even though he has a Power Wagon, he is STILL suffering from PWE or MPWE. Modern Power Wagon Envy is a new strain that i have never encountered---until that day ! Said he has been building his truck a little at a time for 30 yrs & it still is not as capable as ours. He knew a LOT but not everything our trucks have. :excited: When i showed him how low 1st gear Lo range was, i thought he was gonna wet
himself !!!

POWER WAGON ENVY......

Post by JBM Power Wagon » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:32 am

I live in Edmonton, Alberta (a metro area of just over 1 million people) and around here I get mostly strange looks from people. Kinda like they can't figure out why I need such a beast of a truck.

But my job takes me to multiple rural communities and smaller cities all over Northwest Alberta and when I pull into those towns most of my coworkers LOVE the truck and can't wait to talk about it! More than once I've offered "go ahead, take it for a spin" but I think the idea of taking the bosses truck out for a ride is too intimidating for them.

Definitely some fun times witnessing the PWE!!!
Loving my 3/4 ton version of my old Jeep TJ!!!!!

We did a roadtrip last month, camping, Civil War battlefields, Revolutionary War sites, etc.

Was getting gas in Antietam near the battlefield when a guy with a '12 PW pulled in. We circled around each other's trucks, sniffed a bit (like dogs meeting), and said simultaneously, "nice truck".
We exchanged the standard tales of adventure and then went our separate ways.

I went inside the store to retrieve my wife and the clerk was still at the window staring at my truck. He turned to me and said, "You're truck is so cool; I can't believe I just saw TWO Power Wagons."

It's funny. You either get that reaction or "what's a Power Wagon?" There's no middle ground.
Safety fast,
Bill

I guess that is a plus for having a car payment. While I was still making payments on the Durango, when the monthly statement would come it would have info on new products and in the late fall/early winter of 2004.....there it was: POWER WAGON!!! I instantly had PWE and it would be several months before I was able to locate the real thing on a dealer's lot. By the end of 2005, with Durango paid off, I was driving a 2006 POWER WAGON! :D

Maybe I was the first case of current production PWE? (I always liked the originals)

My wife once asked me why I needed to own a PowerWagon.
My response "Because they make it!!!!!!"
Is it a little over the top for most average days?----Yes
Does it get crappy gas mileage?----Yes!
Does it pay for itself the first time you run into problems 30km from a main road and would have had to sleep in the bush for the night and walk out the next morning with ANY other truck?-------Yes! (Don't ask me how I know!!!)

I wanted one after reading the first 'zine description of the '05 PW. Over the next few years I'd see one, but very rarely. Maybe once or twice a year!

Never thought I'd actually own one tho, and if it hadn't been for the pending bankruptcy of Chrysler, I never would have. Cactus Red sat on the lot for almost 6 months, and started out at 47K on the sticker. I'd drive by once a month and stop, and for a long time the price stayed the same. It came down to 45K, and I offered them 40 out the door with the lifetime BtoB included, and they took it. Shocked the h**l outta me that they did. Guess they wanted to clear inventory really baddly!

There a few PW in our area, but by and large, the 4x4 community here is much more into the Jeep or Toyota sized rigs. The full size truck segment is dominated by the diesel powered trucks used for ranch or construction use, or the standard 1/2 ton daily driver. I rarely get comments on the street, but when I lead local trail rides for the Overland Journal or one of my other group runs, I always hear about how surprised other wheelers are about the big truck going where it does so easily.
I'm just along for the ride...

My story is similar to Twin Stick. Bought my 2004 Ram 2500 Hemi in the middle of April 2004 and slowly started to work on it. Had I known the Power Wagon was coming out in 2005 I would have waited. I threw a lot of money at my 2004 trying to make it a Power Wagon, but it never got there. In November of last year I couldn’t take it anymore. Hell- I traded my 2010 Chevy Camaro 2SS and my 2004 Ram 2500 Hemi in on my 2012 Power Wagon. If you were/are a member of Dodge Talk you’ve seen my numerous threads on wanting a Power Wagon. People just don’t understand when I tell them you can buy a Power Wagon for a lot less than you can turn a standard HD Hemi into a Power Wagon. I speak from experience when I say if you want a Power Wagon, buy one from the start. It’s going to cost you a lot less money in the long run if you take my advice.

I can honestly say but I'm not proud of now that when I was in the market for a new truck that was more truck than my ranger I went to most all the dealerships in my town and a few in others but the Dodge dealership in my small home town I went to and walked around and didn't see much worth testing. I wasn't looking for new but used and for what ever reason I didn't want a Dodge and it was for no particular reason at all. My wife and I got home and a few nights later she was on the internet and brought up the truck I currently own and showed me it on line and I said "That truck was in the parking lot???" Needless to say within 3 days I bought it. I knew nothing about Power Wagons. I have hod no problems with this truck so far knock on wood. I enjoy the insight that other Power Wagon owners have given me and I will never sell this truck ever! So I have never had Power Wagon envy but I see how it can be contageous!

Me & a guy i work with go back & forth all the time about our trucks. He has a 2012 F-150 CC loaded up. All i ever hear is "F-150, Motor Trends Truck of the year baby." My response is "I don't think i would be bragging about driving a Truck of the Year" from a car magazine !" "Real men don't read a car magazine to buy a truck anyways, only urbanites do that ! We have some good laughs though. I told him he better be nice to me, cause when he gets his Truck of the Year buried in mud with his 22" dubs, i'm one of the only people that will be able to get it out. That reminds me-----i better charge up the camera before hunting season ! LOl

I had a situation like that last winter at work. One day we got buried in snow while at work for forty hours. 40 cm of snow had fallen, then the grader had plowed the road behind our parking spots. He tried to get out and got hung up halfway out. Three guys tried pushing him---but he couldn't even rock it. I finished defrosting my truck while they were doing it. They all watched to see if I would make it. I locked front and rear in hi, using my bypass; then walked out with zero issue, as my studded Duratracs bit hard. I pulled up behind him and told him I would play Monte Hall Lets Make a Deal-----his choice---either $50 or he could take a chance and pay to fill my gas tank. It could be full or empty!---LOL. I hooked on to him with the winch and pulled him out sideways.
I settled for a case of beer delivered to my house. Ordinarily I would have done it for free----but he had always been acting like a knob , saying how shitty Dodge's were. I should have taken video----but it was really cold.

First post here. Outstanding site!!! Anyway I had a 74 PW "Sno Fiter" 2500 when I was 18 (I'm 47 now) Had a 318 that I NEVER changed the oil, plowed every winter, had pieces of sheet metal as floor boards and kept it until I was 25ish until it just rusted out around me. Heck it had 4 wheel DRUM breaks. I absolutely loved that truck. Green with the yellow "sno fiter" stripes. Since that truck I've had a 79 and an 83 Ramcharger, 90 Dakota long bed 4X4, 98 1500 extra cab 4X4 and an 01 Durango. Once I saw the new Power Wagons come out a few years ago I knew I HAD to have one. SOOOO, the beginning of this week I submitted a build order for a grey ST model. I really can't wait. Should be done in lat summer/early fall.

my older brother made fun of my truck all the time until i had to go rescue him and my nephew when they buried a 2011 gas f250 to the bottom of the doors in wet, sugary, spring snow. i drove around him in 2wd so i could hook the winch up, the look on my brothers face when my nephew said " daddy the big truck can make it " was worth taking ever bit of the smack talk

Welcome aboard! I'm one of the newer guys on here, too......but I jumped into the deep end of the pool pretty quick. I've got a 2011 PW and have vowed I will drive it until the wheels fall off. You are gonna love your new PW! My wife still has to come out to the garage and driveway to drag me inside to stop me from admiring my truck and playing around with it! She said it's going to make me go blind! Hah! You'll also find that the Winch Mob crew on this site are a truly good bunch to hang out with, both on the site and in person, if you come out on an off road trip. Enjoy! We're excited for you getting your brand new rig! :winchmob:

My favorite part is when guys ask me what size lift it has... I say "none, just factory" and then I have them hooked like a fish!
Their next question is always about the winch... where can I get a mount like that?... I don't know that one is factory too!

Mine is a 2005 Quad Cab... bought in 2007 in MN
At the time there was only 3 PW available in the whole state... I've never seen another one on the road since.
Heck, I don't think the dealer knew what he had either... he didn't have it listed as a PW on his web site.
The sales guy spent more time talking about the aftermarket stereo the previous owner installed (it is a cool Sony with 7" flip out screem and DVD player)
When I asked about the lockers He just looked at me funny.
It had 10,000 miles and just over a year old... sticker in the glove box was $49,000 and they sold it to me for $28,000 with a new ActiveGate bed liner system to boot.
Like I said, they didn't know what they had.

:winchmob:

Yes sir----Even women have PWE !!!! Mine calls my truck "your steel mistress that wears red & black !"

Note to other PW owners: Get a sticky note & write: "Damn, i should of got a Power Wagon !" & stick it to the pass side mirror of those that talk smack. I did that, took him 2 days till he seen it. When he saw me he said dude, that was the funniest shit ever !
