Truck needs a diet

Post by dogcar3 » Sat Oct 05, 2013 1:04 pm

Just weighed in on a scale at 8270lbs in my daily load out. No wonder my gas mileage sucks.

Tools. Recovery stuff. Winter stuff. Guess it all just adds up. Plus front and rear steel bumpers and sliders. And a winch in the rear. I knew I weighed a lot but I was thinking 7800 (without me) or so. Wishful thinking.

That weight was with a 195lb me in it as well. So I guess my guess was not too far off.

WOW! you guy's trucks do need to go on a diet. My Cummins weighs 8420#. Thats with a winch on the front and loads of tools and recovery gear plus extra 5 gal of fuel and 5 gal water. 4900# front 3640# rear....

So who says diesels weigh too much to go off road? :thppt:

You could haul around fifty million helium balloons and these trucks would still have shitty gas mileage.
Enjoy this life, cause it's all we're getting.

Can't forget the dual battery, crane and headache rack. All adds weight.

Damn, that makes me a light weight at 8K even! Still get 12+ MPG on 35's since I went to the Toyo AT2's.
I'm just along for the ride...

So I weighed in on a brand new digital scale yesterday at 8200lbs. That suggests either the previous 2 scales where wrong or this one is wrong. My truck should be up around 8900lbs by now. My wifes 02 wrangler is heavily modified and weighed in at 4700lbs today and sounds about right. I will be taking my M923A2 on it next. according to stats it should be 21500lbs.

The only way a quad cab is 6500 lbs is maybe dry weight.... No fluids, fuel, etc...

I can get mine down to 7160 for a DITY move. No spare tire or jack, gas light on, completely empty. 06 quadcab with the G56. I've never tried removing the winch. Loaded up day to day I'm around 7800-8000.
