BTW, I do actually have tail-lights...but I started removing them on the narrow trails, because I'm tired of buying new ones. I'm also planning to figure out a way to easily detach my next set of mirrors, as they are simply too vulnerable on narrow trails. I'm not too worried about this set, since the glass is broken in both of them, they no longer lock into position, and the power adjust doesn't work. The little convex mirror works fine though, as long as I get them in approximately the right position. One one of my old 'wheeling rigs, I actually mounted mirrors inside the cab on the a-pillars, so that they didn't stick out and couldn't get hit by trees...perhaps I should try that on my PW.

Truck pics (to make other folks feel better)
I decided earlier today to take a few pics of my truck, to document my current level of damage for future reference. As I sometimes do, I figured that I might as well post them here so that folks can properly appreciate how nice their trucks look compared to mine.

Haha, I need to take a couple of pics of my other truck. Pretty much in the same category.

Probably something for sale at PEP BOYS to remove that in one application.

That's true...they do sell a lot of miracle products, and there's probably something that'll help that buff right out.flattire wrote:Probably something for sale at PEP BOYS to remove that in one application.
stamm20 - I live in the Upper Peninsula, on the MI/WI border. Not quite the middle of nowhere, but I can see it from here.
whitey - Yeah, I need a whole exo cage of some sort...but it'd be tough to do that in a way that wouldn't actually tend to snag on trees and branches. Plus, that'd just make the truck bigger...which means I'd hit even more stuff. As far as the mirrors go, once you break the plastic covering off they aren't too bad...underneath they have what could be an aluminum casting, which seems somewhat sturdy. I've also busted the windshield, which is a larger problem and is a bit tougher to fix myself. In my extensive research, I've also discovered that not all radio antennas are created equal...some bend and stay bent, while some pop back into position but eventually snap off due to fatigue. I think I prefer the ones that bend, because I don't always catch when the other type snaps off and I don't want to leave parts of my truck out in the woods. My current antenna is off a 1990-ish Ford Escort, and appears to be the bendy type rather than the breaky type.
I've also discovered that if you hit the tow mirrors just right, the whole glass falls out in one piece and ends up dangling from the wires that go to the heating element (if they don't break off). They're actually really easy to pop back in as long as you catch it right away and don't run them over. Also, if you "dislocate" the mirrors by bending them the wrong way you can actually fix them - but only one or two times, and if you do it 10 or 20 times you're sort of SOL.
It's amazing what you learn once you break stuff as much as I do.
On the other hand, my lockers work great and both ends easily lock up within 10 seconds...so at least my truck does have that going for it.

Re: Truck pics (to make other folks feel better)
When you get done beating the crap out of it let me know I would buy it from you and chop it up and make a PW truggy out of it. Again love seeing someone wheel and use there truck. Should have got a white or silver one to hide the scratches some lol. Only color worse than red is black for showing scratches. Love it!
