Snorkel snorkel snorkel!! (chanting) fourth generation??

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

Why ? So you can put your Smart Bar and winch under water...or because you don't want to see that motorcycle on your right ?...or you think they make your truck look hard core...the only Valid reason to get a snorkel is to escape ZOMBIES, when you must cross that DEEP water...JMHO...plus they look like shit. And you have to cut a big hole in your fender ! :poke:

There is nothing wrong with a little rain! I did not see a parade but they need a little rain too IMHO.

I don't have one for all the reasons he stated... but that said they do look good on other folks trucks for sure. For me the deal breaker was the obstructing of my right side view of traffic and such, otherwise I think I could have overlooked all the rest of the con's and put one on my truck too, as they really do look cool and do have some pro's to them too!

My truck IS my Zombie escape vehicle so I guess I need a snorkel. Lol.

I don't see myself installing one but they certainly have a purpose for some.

Please don't take this too serious...By all means get a snorkel if you like them that's great...One thing about this forum is nobody ever seems to disagree with a mod...say for example a set of after market rims someone got. Everybody says those look great...X2..well some really suck(just one persons opinion) and usually I don't say anything. Like the old saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" But I draw the line with snorkels. It's just my opinion and apparently a few others agree...so don't get all pissed...just show me a video of a PW in water that's deep enough to need a snorkel and make sure to show the Zombies chasing it. I haven't seen one yet...And I have some mods ! But I think some people that have heavily modded a PW would have been better off getting a 1/2 ton cheap and building a bad ass 4x4 from scratch. Mine suits me as is, pretty much. That's why I bought it. :patriot:

I do think there are some good reasons to have one..say you live in a flood prone area or a hurricane area...or if your a first responder in those areas and need to get to work.... :patriot:

i'ld only buy one for the looks.

when i drive through water, i just crawl and don't gun it for a video. sometimes i get out and wade in it to check the depth.

lmao thanks guys but im thinking its better to have one for when you don't need it then to not have one for when I do. one water crossing to fast can really wreck your day and the worst your engine. ive had some friends walk holes before they look about two foot deep and as soon as the rear wheels are in it its 4 feet lol I would brather cut the hole and deal with the sale value dropping rather then change rings by ingesting a small amount from a splash of water or change an engine when it gets hydro locked. I don't like submerging my truck at all but It would be better to have it then not :D I don't really care about the small space it obstructs given the trucks hood sits about 5'6 off the ground anyways. ive gotten used to looking around a bit more before I partake on a path
just wondering if anyone has heard anything about r and d one the fourth generations/snorkel for them that's all. thanks for the "father" talk though :p

Personally I wouldn't put one on mine, the A pillars block plenty enough stuff from my view as it is!

But, I can see the purpose of having one, most definitely! I hydrolocked my ZJ's engine in a mud hole (bent rods, warped crank, had to get a new engine), have been wheeling with a friend and seen him hydrolock his Bronco II, and dang near hydrolocked my ZR2 blazer! (before the ZJ, I learned the lesson with the ZJ, LOL!) I've learned my mud lessons in the past so, now I won't hit a puddle unless I am 100% sure of the depth! (even knowing that I still probably won't hit it, mud cleanup is a PITA!) Paying for a new engine really hammers home the need to either get a snorkel or stay outta deep mud!

I'm personally not a fan of the idea for one of our trucks but, if you want one, go for it!!! If I were in the market for one, I'd probably start looking at ARB or one of the other manufacturers and see what applications they offer them for. Then I would start to compare windshield height and slope of those vehicles and see what looks like it would match up well. You'll have to do some tweaking since (AFAIK) there are none for our 4th gens but, maybe there's something close! One that comes to mind as a possibility is maybe the snorkel for the 200 series Land Cruiser?

I agree with ram4roks about Playing in the mud/water-I don't do it unless I have to. Hard to clean !!! And I go as slow as possible. I went to the PW Rally a couple of years ago at the Hollister,ca. off road park. They had some contests like the teeter totter, where you try and balance as long as possible...I came in second...and they had the mud bog race-timed as fast as you can go.. See the Dodge CTD that hit a tree cuz he couldn't stop...SAD

Ben, who came in first?
I do believe that the vintage red PW is owned by an old buddy of mine and also my insurance agent, he has old sweptline PW also and both are show winners.

Guys who play in the dirt can benefit from the snorkel too, its not just for water. Keeping the intake further off the ground helps keep dirt out of the element.

Also, there's a truck in this picture?

I'm not buying that....to many variables...++ just change your filter more often if you in a high dust environment. You see any snorkels on dirt bikes ???
