Brake Pads
Brake Pads
Hey guys, so my brakes have been making some noise. When I asked the (cough) dealer at my last oil change about it, they said, and I quote: "yea, those are made in China and aren't really that good". Can someone say dumbass?? Anyway, since that is getting me no where, I am gonna put some new brake pads on tomorrow. I was just wondering what you guys think is the best route to go. I don't think I need super expensive, but a good middle of the road. Never done brake pads before, so just curious.
Thanks guys

Re: Brake Pads
I had the same problem and put on a set of EBC Greenstuff pads on OEM rotors and still squeaked.
Then I put on a set of Performance Friction Z-Rated pads (made from carbon metallic, not semi-metallic, not ceramic) and have gone 60k without so-much-as a single squeak and they stop better than the OEM pads. The best brake pads I have every owned.
I got them from O'Reilly Auto Parts for about $85.99 a set and they came with a life time warranty which means free replacements as long as I own the truck. Can't beat that.

Re: Brake Pads
I got the EBC YellowStuff pads along with the EBC slotted and dimpled Sport rotors. Never had any noise from them. The PW should have come from the factory with this set-up.

Re: Brake Pads
I got my whole set up from Rock Auto .com. VERY impressed so far. Just gently touching the pedal, is like mashing the pedal before !!! Power Stop Part # K546836. Drilled & slotted zinc plated rotors & w/Z36 Truck & Tow pads. $480 delivered to my door.
Power Stop Part # Z36965 for just the pads. $56.79+ shipping.

Re: Brake Pads
Pads are like ass holes everyone is one, I mean has them....This is very subjective...do you tow...are you a brake rider...do you go fast - to the last second up to the light....I have 32,000 mi on my 06 almost all with a heavy camper on the back....and they still have enough life on them that I'm going on my next adventure. When they are DONE - I will have the rotors turned (like all my other vehicles) and buy a good oem or same pad.

Re: Brake Pads
I had at least half or more pad left on mine, they just rusted up so bad that chunks of rotor had flaked off & gouged the shit outa my pads & they were actually rubbing while driving because of all the debris. I took em off once & cleaned em but 2 weeks later they were doing the same thing again. Damn NY salt !!!

Re: Brake Pads
Yea, since my last trip out getting into a really nasty water/mud hole, but brakes haven't been too good. I've cleaned them a few times, but there is alot of brake dust on the wheels.
I want to do the EBC once day, just not quite in the works right now.
Thanks for the input guys.

Hawk Performance in the red box. Superduty, I believe they're called. Once you get some heat into them, they stop NOW, and they don't make any noise at all.

Re: Brake Pads
So, any specific parts for the 4G truck brakes?
Mine make a helluva racket when they are cold but when they warm up it goes away. I think it is just road grime but it is annoying!
Planning to get them changed at my next oil change if I can find the right parts.

I've always liked the hawk ceramic not sure if they're available for these. Never used ebc but have heard nothing but good about them

Brake Pads
Thinking about trying the yellow stuff pads to help with the 37's my brakes aren't nearly as good as they should be for being this size also looking at power stop z23? The ebc's are easily double the price and I don't mind spending it providing they work in the winter okay and don't have to be warm as he'll to stop like some racing brakes can be.... Also heard brake dust sucks on them! (Yellow stuffs) any input?
Also will be reusing stock rotors. Not that mch of a rotor lip and no vibrations from them at all.

Re: Brake Pads
that's probably us price so their actually the same as ebc yellow stuffs or greens right now at 170$ Canadian an end! Looks like the only good close options for me are ebc yellow or green or those power stops. Maybe a z36 truck/ tow pad? Which is like half the price of the yellow stuffs or hawks...Will wrote:I've been using the Hawk Performance Super Duty pads and love them, helps keep my wallet from getting hungry also. Re: Brake Pads
My brakes squeak when I have light pressure on the pedal coming to a stop. If I brake hard there is no noise. I have 18,000 miles now. Just drove down a long dirt road and now brakes are squeaking like crazy. I have a lot of pad left.

Re: Brake Pads
Mine does it aswell and the pads still look brand new. I've tried half ass bedding them by going up to 35 and laying on them down to 10 or so a few times but that didn't help. Guess I'll go out and try a proper bedding to see if that helps.
