2014 Power Wagon get's 6.4L Hemi

Not a huge increase by any means. I kind of expected more from the 6.4L Hemi. I guess it saves a long talk with my wife...

Available 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 delivers best-in-class 410 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 429 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Standard 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 delivers 383 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.

In a way, I'm glad it's not a big power increase. I don't have the overwhelming urge to have the bigger engine as I would with about 450-470HP. With a baby due in less than 2 weeks, I REALLY don't need to be having the new truck talk with the wife...

For me the big difference here is the availability of a six-speed transmission paired against the 6.4. Should result in better fuel economy.

Just went to the build site. Engine option is not on there yet (i know-2014). Lots of other neat options though. LOTS of color choices too. You can now get a plain jane single color, no clearance lights, no badges Power Wagon. First time i have seen a zero credit for carpet delete though.

I figure that with exhaust work and a cold air intake I'm close to 400+ HP/410+ Ft/Lbs (if the advertized gains are true anyway). I'd need to see the dyno chart for the 6.4L to see if it would make a big change in performance. If the power and torque come in at much lower RPM, that would make a difference. Both of my power adders come in at the high end - above 4K RPM. From what the published numbers show, this isn't a normal 6.4L, it's a truck motor, much like the difference between the 1/2T Hemi and the 3/4T Hemi.
I'm just along for the ride...

Lol. Not from your dealer! Ha ha. I talked to them yesterday about their advertised pricing. I was set to bring one home if it was real. Turns out I had to be a military high school farmer that works at new holland and just graduated college with a '13 lease to turn in to get it! Then I asked about your old truck - still waiting for a call back....

Yea, most dealers advertise a super low price, but that includes all incentives that you have to qualify for. Not sure who you talked to, but ask for Cal. The Farm Bureau thing is an easy way to get $500 knocked off, I used it. Only costs $10 to become a member. But you have to be a member for at least 30 days.

LOL- you were the first person I thought of as soon as I saw this.

Seeing this kind of made me sad. I'm starting to think a Silver Power Wagon with the Ram Box and the new Hemi would be sweet. I just know there's no way on God's Green Earth I'll be able to convince my wife it's a good idea, so for now I'll just dream.

Hmmm, VERY interesting!!! Only disappointing thing- still no regular cab or six speed manual choices for the Power Wagon. (not that I'd expect there to be but, I can always dream, right?) If they'd make a 6.4L, sixspeed manual, regular cab shortbed Power Wagon, I'd be at the dealer tonight with my 2012 to trade in! (yes, my wife would kill me but dang it, it'd be worth it!!!)

Seeing as how it's still only available as a crew cab automatic, if the 6.4L was a bigger jump in Power, I might would still trade my 2012 in but, with 27 more horsepower and 29lbft of torque (though likely at some nicer lower RPMs), I don't feel so urgent a need. I'd love to have a bigger engine (especially since my wife's Yukon XL Denali has a 6.2L and she picks on me about the fact that my truck's engine is smaller) but, I'd hate to take the hit $$$$ wise to trade in my truck just for a slightly more powerful engine and a coil spring rearend. (I actually like my interior and exterior better than the 2013 update- I'm not one much a fan of the new headlights, grille, taillights, and some of the new interior bits (I suspect I may be the only person that isn't a fan, LOL!))

It does make me sad though that I will no longer have the biggest (only) available engine. Dang it would be sweet to have a 6.4L!!!

Also, I shudder to think what the eventual lessening of resale value of prior years will be now that the Power Wagons are getting bigger engines and plusher suspensions. The oddest thing is for the 2013's, they have the newer interior but the older suspension and engine choice. Not as bad as what Jeep did with the 2011 Wrangler (new interior and canbus electricals but old engine/trans making it the redheaded stepchild of JKs) but still kinda odd- why not just roll out all the new stuff at once?

It will have my attention. Should be a better towing platform than my '06. The gearing alone in the 66RFE should be an improvement over my 545RFE. From 345 HP to 410 HP and from 375 TQ to 429 TQ should be a noticeable improvement. Will be interested if the air bag option will be on the Power Wagon and what its tow rating and cargo capacity will be. The dual alternators should help with winching power.

While I will agree that the new 6 speed is better than the 5 speed, the 8 speed would be even better...

How much will it cost? I don't tow or haul heavy stuff much (Hell for what I do I would be fine will a 1500 or dakota/ranger) so the added power doesn't justify the new car payment I would have. That being said, I am glad Ram is making the move to better compete with the competion. The 5.7 is venerable and reliable like the M16 series rifle, but you have to upgrade at some point.

Settle down guys as there may be a ZF 8 speed (the same one found in all the supercars) on the way! It is really a 10+ speed but the gear combinations are so similar only 8 discernible gear selections are programmable/available. Well 9 speeds in reality as there is a kick down ratio too. The small one is slated for the ram 1500 with a V-6 first but there will be one for the HD Rams in short order. Also a direct injection 5.7 that beats the 6.4 is in the works too.

While not the one for the Ram trucks it is similar and has a great rundown on the features. While it has been delayed it is still in the works!

If its like the 1500 rear 5-link I've got some reservations...looks like a lot of crap that will get hung up on all sorts of things. The rear stabilizer bar looks like it would get ripped off in about 5 minutes.

The suspension. The jury is still out. Have to wait and see.

"Although the Ram Power Wagon benefits from the new five-link rear suspension, it also receives a unique front suspension system to maintain its leadership in off-road capability. The modified front three-link system incorporates high-movement links, allowing for additional flexibility and axle articulation. The 2014 Power Wagon also is powered by the all-new 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine, contributing to Ram Power Wagon’s title: the most capable production off-road truck in the industry."

The wheelbase is still too long for me. :( Don't know about the front suspension. No regular cab. :( My PW is paid for, and only has 45,000 miles on it. If I want more power. Think I might look up the HemiShop and go for this. Cheaper then buying a new PW.

It'll be interesting to see if the rear 5 link is like that was put into the Moab short bed power wagon. If so would be cool to see the progression from Mopar Underground to production. Will definitely take care of wheel hop and potentially add more articulation, but depending on what it does for towing capacity seems like it might be actually be taking away from the swiss army knife capability of current Power Wagons and basically be making it a big jeep.

That extra suspension stuff/new suspension- sure seems to have a lot going on UNDER the axle tube  !!! Just sayin'. Maybe it worked for them because of the tire size? Be even lower with 33's on it. Just sayin'. Wonder if it would work as well if they were mounted in/on front of rear axle ?

:wtf:
