finickey oil pressure gauge

Post by fbenross » Mon Apr 29, 2013 10:13 pm

I just finished a week of vacation driving around Nevada and Death Valley. I posted pictures in the “Get Together” section. I had some problems with my 06 PW…about 3oo miles into the trip my red “Brake Warning” and yellow ABS lights came on, steady at first then intermittently. After a couple of hours they went out and never came back on for the rest of the trip/7 days. So I’m not concerned about that at this time. The other problem was the oil pressure gauge. The first day during the Brake Warning Light issue I stopped for gas – when I started the engine I had a “check gauges” light and zero oil pressure. I checked the oil and re-started and the gauge worked. For the next 7 days about 50% of the time when I started the engine I would have to turn it off then on again to get the gauge to work and check light to go off. Anyway long story-I’m planning on changing the oil sending unit-does anyone know where on the engine it is located? It would save me some time on my back. Thanks Ben.

Yeah, sounds like the sender has a piece of crap in it. To tell you where it's at. I don't know.

From the picture I have of the engine, it looks as though its just above the oil filter.

Mine does the same thing. Been like that for 6 months. Have to shut it off and start it back up and then it works. Let me know If that fixes the problem.

OK I goofed, ignore the previous post that is for an SRT10 only, the SRT10 has the oil temperature sensor not the 5.7.

Here is the 5.7 oil pressure switch location and testing procedure.

I put the new OEM oil pressure sending unit on today. Very easy, you just need channel locks. I really won't know if that was the problem till I put some miles on it. The OEM part # for a 2006 is 5149097AA.... NAPA $52...Dealer $42...MoparPartsOverstock.com around $30 delivered...
