Stock PW coil springs diff for std cab vs crew cab?
Stock PW coil springs diff for std cab vs crew cab?
(Hopefully I did not bozo the search and I am asking a new question...)
I have a stock 09 2500 SLT standard cab and want to put PW coils up front. Does anyone know for sure if the springs are different between a PW standard cab and PW crew cab? I would assume they are different just because of the extra weight of the cab. If you have part numbers for the standard cab springs that would be even better (I have left#52122561AA, right#52122559AA for crew cab).
Also, could someone with stock springs go out and measure the installed height of the spring for me? I am sitting at 14", I think stock for this truck is 12". If anyone has info on spring rates that would be great as well.
Background: someone put in a leveling kit that feels like 6" pipes were used instead of springs. The truck hits bumps so hard my phone comes out of the slot under the radio ("road" is a relative term in the greater Boston area where I live). I am the second owner and don't know what is in there except that it needs to come out. I would prefer to put in a spring that rides reasonably well and gives a bit of lift; Don Thurman e-mailed that I should try to find a PW spring for what I am doing.
Many thanks...

I'm not a whole lot of help for you as I have a 4th Gen Power Wagon and not a 3rd Gen, but I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Somebody should be along pretty quick to be able to help you out.

Many thanks!
Some day I will have the time and money to upgrade to a PW, for now I will enjoy what I have. I have already added bluetooth uconnect and steering wheel audio controls as well as a few other minor mods.

If Don Thuren recommended it, its the way to go. Definitely a Dodge expert not to mention he could have tried to sell ya some high parts you really didn't need.

Quick question...I'm assuming you have a hemi and not a cummins? That would make a big difference. Here's Kore's kit they advertise to upgrade your truck to Power Wagon performance. http://www.koreraceshop.com/KORE-HP-Ser ... -Hemi.aspx Although, I've heard less than flattering things lately about Kore's customer service

Like bstefanic said. Hemi or Cummins? If you got a smoker, the PW coils won't help you. If you got a Hemi. It will be about a 2" lift over a standard 2500.

Re: Stock PW coil springs diff for std cab vs crew cab?
Thank you all for the replies. She is a hemi automatic, originally had the plow prep springs and a 5200 GAWR on the front. If anyone has a standard cab PW and is willing to share the last 8 digits of their VIN with me I can see if the spring part numbers are different from Dodge. I realize that these trucks are rare but it's probably worth knowing.
Re: Stock PW coil springs diff for std cab vs crew cab?
So I may have an answer here based on a round about method. I was able to get a VIN from a truck that had sold on ebay, a 2006 standard cab PW. I called the dealer for prices and asked for the part numbers. It turns out that the part numbers are the same for standard and quad cab,and that these springs can be had new for about $160 plus shipping off the web. The GAWR for that truck was 4500lbs, lower than my SLT with a plow pack, which has a GAWR of 5200lbs.
I am very open to second opinions confirming or denying that the springs are the same. While my logic seems sound I know that some reading this forum work on these trucks for a living and I would defer to your wisdom and experience over my logic.

Re: Stock PW coil springs diff for std cab vs crew cab?
That is correct. They also use a stiffer spring on the driver side to compensate for the extra weight. It's about 50 in.lbs stiffer than the passenger side.
For a better ride, some progressive rate or soft rate coils would treat you better. That's not a sales pitch, it's just basic math. I'm not sure why Don would suggest the PW coils other than he may not have a set that will give you exactly the height you want. I know his springs would give you a better ride than the stock PW springs. But for $160 and shipping, that's a good deal and maybe that's why he suggested them.
