Tire pressure monitors

Post by Wildcat1 » Mon Apr 14, 2025 7:15 pm

I switched the stock 33” Duratracs to 35” Wrangler Boulder MT’s. Definitely not as smooth on the road as the Duratracs so I want to lower the tire pressure. Sounds like most people suggest 40/45 psi. I know that will throw a warning. My question is can I just leave light on and ignore it or do I need to buy some type of programmer? I have looked at the AEV Procal, Alfa OBD and the Tazr. All of them require pulling off panels to get to sensors. Wish there was a plug and play programmer like the Hypertech one I had years ago. Maybe I just need to ignore the tire pressure warning light!

What year is your truck? If it’s ‘14-19’ then an AEV Procal will work & it’s just a simple OBD II plug in. I had one for my ‘14 & it worked great…TPMS settings, speedo, tire diameter, gears, highs & fogs, seat belt chime.

If you have a 19+, the new trucks have a canbus security protocol protection to prevent cyber attacks via the OTA 4G antenna & the OBD. HD Rams has 60+ pages on this, start there. There’s two Can busses that require security by-pass. AEV makes a connector kit that bypasses one of the Can protocols, limiting the parameters you can change. The other requires a security bypass cable, a Bluetooth OBD II scanner, and a software program like Alpha OBD on a windows or Android OS.

Damn that sounds like some cyber military type security!! The truck is a 2024. Guess I will just drive with the tire pressure light on for a while.
