2008 Winch repair/rewire help

Post by UncleYarbie » Mon Feb 13, 2023 2:33 pm

OK,

So I pulled my winch the other day so that I could go about removing the LVI and TPS. When I purchased my truck the winch never functioned as the previous owner said the LVI was out. My main cables from the battery were already removed and zip tied out of the way.

First I know where the ground goes but which solenoid does the battery +cable go to?

Second I understand the one cable gets wired out of the LVI circuit. Is it the red wire that's going to the controller that's supposed to go directly to the ground?

Third- I pulled the motor out and pulled the wires off the TPS it should work with that completely unwired right? I just need to jumper the return? Or do I also need to bumper either side of the TPS? I would think if it's not being used it wouldn't need current through it right?

My case was severally corroded so I am cleaning and painting it along the way. Here's a few pictures of that I'm doing and the wires in question

This truck was originally from Marysville Washington, I purchased it from the 2nd owner in Colorado and brought it back with me to Idaho. The rest of the truck hardly has corrosion or rust but for some reason the winch got ugly

Some where here on the forum is a complete diagram of the winch. Where? I don't know.

Based on this picture from page #29 of the manual, it looks like you're missing a bus bar between solenoid #1 & #3 and the positive battery cable is supposed to connect to the outer terminal of solenoid #3.

I have that bus bar, I was taking everything apart and cleaning the connections at the time. That's the info I needed though, I appreciate it.

Thank you

Once you have the winch hooked to power, hook up the remote and power it one direction or another. If you hear strong clicking, your solenoids are most likely good. While powering in one direction take a mini-sledge to somewhat forcibly tap the motor housing to see if it frees up the motor to start operating.
