EMF or Dynatrac Ball Joints?

Post by Oilbrnr » Mon Apr 26, 2021 11:28 am

6k+ of washboard AZ roads getting to/from my home to pavement has done its' job on my 83k mile 2016 joints.

Which of the two rebuildable solutions to go with?

The question i
s, who has either on stock. If not, how long will it take to get them.

Thuren shows the EMF ball joints out of stock. $550.00

8 Lug show the DynaTrac's in stock. $799.00

The US dealer off the EMF site shows them in stock.

I think I like the simplicity of the EMF unit, though the needle-bearing approach in the Dynatrac is appealing.

Suppose the real question is how they differ in handling when worn, and how long is that between rebuilds. Obviously, the EMF is less expensive per rebuild, but do they wear quicker? Suppose much of that would depend on one's ability to get the pre-load setup correctly per their YT vids.

I got the Dynatrac ones at the recommendation of my mechanic. They are pretty beefy and I had them replaced when I got new ball joints as part of warranty work. They just charged me the difference. I was happy the factory ones were loose. I looked at the EMF ones as well, and I think they would be a solid bet as well.

I'm on Carli joints for just over a year now. Can't really give you a long term review on them, but I haven't seen any complaints. My thinking is at the price point $800 (for uppers and lowers), and a lifetime warranty, why rebuild. If they are as robust as Carli thinks they are to give a lifetime warranty for wear and tear, then I won't have to worry about them again. If something does wear out I will just get a free replacement.

EMF. CJC Off Road appears to be in stock. Pay attention to install instructions. EMF has some You Tube videos on installation too, especially the tightening of the forcing cone, or whatever it's called, is pretty important.

The OE ball joints were fine, but I replaced them anyway. It's an all day job, unless you have a 3/4 or 1 inch impact with a commercial air compressor. If not it's a lot of cranking with a braker bar or t-handle and a cheater pipe.

I am with Rusty on the Carli ball joints. I have had mine in for 5 or 6 years and they are still perfect.
