The Height of My Garage Door-The Unexpected

Post by Mountie » Mon Oct 12, 2020 9:16 pm

So I go out and buy a Dual Steering Stabilizer kit, a 2 inch levelling kit and a set of 275-65-20 Duratrac tires (34 inches tall) which are an inch over stock. I happen to have a set of black honeycomb rims from a 3500 diesel that I really like. They look great on my 2015 Powerwagon. Truly happy with myself. I was kinda patting myself on the back as I had shopped around and got some super deals. But the one thing I had never even thought about was the height of my garage door. After careful measuring, I realized that I only have 1/2 half inch of roof clearance due to a dent in the middle of my garage door. If somehow I can fix the dent I gain about an inch. So I would have abount 1.5 inches of clearance. Still pretty close but workable. Just thought I would pass this on to all you folks so you could have a good laugh at me. Cheers.

Could be worse. You could have found you had about a millimeter less clearance than you needed the expensive way.

But be careful that the door is fully open, particularly when backing up.

Your absolutely right. My original plan was to drive the truck front in and add everything. That would have made things interesting. Probably would have to had to pull the release on the garage door opener and then jam the door up as far as it would go with a piece of 2x4. There is a one inch metal edge that is attached to the on top of the garage door frame that I would have to watch for as well. Oh well. Live and learn.

i envy you guys. My garage door is 6ft high. My Grand Cherokee won't fit. The only things that fits are my track car, and motorcycle. So quit your bitchin'.

Garages are for keeping vehicles in? who knew! I've never kept any of my vehicles inside a garage.

Garage is for the funner toys. Truck can stay outside.
My garage is about 4" too short for the truck, even without the antennas on it.

Those are the best stories. Glad you had a little room. Much better then having to take the house down from around the car

Years ago. i know of one guy who put a 6" lift and 38" tires on his old cheby in his garage. Only to find out that he couldn't get it out of his garage. To get it out. He had to put rims on it without tires so that it would fit under the door.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've had it parked outside for the first 4 years but now I live with my daughter and have the option of parking it in the garage. I either park it on the street or in the garage. No driveway option. With crappy cold winters in Edmonton and the fact I'm now retired, the garage is kinda nice.
