LED Map Light Burn Out

Post by TVIXpaulSPY » Thu Aug 20, 2020 5:12 pm

Before warranty ran out, I noticed one of my LED map lights flickering. Dealer told me it was a consumable so not covered under warranty. Fast forward a couple of years after warranty is out, I've found that it is built into the Overhead Console Housing. I know the hack to put my own LEDs in there, but I would like to buy a new Overhead Console Housing.

For whatever reason I can't figure out which one to order. Moparpartsdirect.com and other similar parts websites don't really have a description of what console is for what trim level.

Is there anyway for me to figure out what part number console is on my truck?

Depends on trim level, color, and which options you have; sun roof, power rear sliding window, and home link. I would suggest looking on EBay. Most listings have the OEM part number. Or check with dealer parts, give them the VIN, and they should be able find the correct console. The LEDs suck, the entire assembly had to be replaced.

OEM part number is what I'm trying to find. Larime, sun roof, power rear window, and homelink. Called the dealer and they were no help. Yes the LEDs do suck. BS how the entire 100-300$ upper console has to be replaced. I should have known.

No they shouldn't be, exactly what I thought at the time. Didn't really think too much of it, because I figured it would be an easy LED replacement when the bulb finally went out.

I was able to order my replacement upper console from a dealer at less than half the cost of what my local dealership wanted for it.

Put the new one in, very simple, just needed to pop four clips, unplug five harnesses, swap over a couple of switches and Homelink, took about 20-25 minutes.

Tested it and all was good. Took the truck to the hardware store, everything worked fine.

Parked the Powerwagon for a week and when I took her out last night. Same LED was dim again. Contacted seller, they are sending me a replacement upper console. Was hopping this would last at least a couple of years until I trade it for another one.

If this next one fails, I will just do the LED hack and call it a day.

Probably isn't the LED. Either the driver for it or a connection.
