Post by Throttle 8 » Thu Apr 16, 2020 3:05 pm

A question got those of you with the G56. Am I missing something or is the Y pipe blocking the drain plug to the point that it is almost impossible to get off? Suggestions?

You're not missing anything. Yep the pipe blocks the drain. Believe Twinsticks used a piece of allen wrench in the drain plug, then used a wrench on the allen piece to remove and install the drain plug. Think he also cut up a plastic milk jug up to use as a funnel.

Thanks Russ! I knew that someone on here had figured it out, but I couldn't find it. My alternative was to take off a pto cover and drain it that way.

I usually have the exhaust off every time I change the trans oil (usually pulling the trans and putting a clutch in lol) but for when I don't, I have an allen head socket that I pound the allen out and use a wrench on it like Russ said.

Similar issue for my 2005 Ram 1500, but I had the machine shop shave down an Allen key for accessing the drain bolt on the transfer case.
