2005 bypass cable instalation help needed

Post by flattire » Fri Jan 17, 2020 11:22 pm

I am installing the ABLE 2005-2009 locker bypass kit. Tried to get connector C137 apart today  This is under dash near main harness/computer.

Instructions said it would be difficult , it was. My truck is an 2005. I'm thinking other years would be the same.

Tried to remove connector from side of computer, couldn't.

Tried to separate connector C137 while still on side of computer, couldn't.

Shouldn't be that hard I know. I am a failure. :D

Any trick to doing this? :secret:

NOTE: This cable is top quality. Comes with everything needed for install. Detailed instructions/ photos. Board member "Retired BLM Rig" makes these.

It takes a lot of hand strength to release the lock tab. Look at the connector on the bypass harness for reference, then use a pair of pliers to pinch the release tab and pull out at the same time. I thought I was going to break it the first time I did it.

The release tab is on the opposite side of the red arrow in this first picture.

I will give it another try . Was trying to push it up rather than squeezing it for the most part.

NOTE: This is NOT a cable problem or bad instructions/ photos. The connector is up under dash. You can see it but hard to get to. Only room for one hand and maybe a few fingers! Would be a 5 minute job if you can get the release to let go.

BLM has posted a page from the instructions you get with your cable.

The little tab under the top jaw of the pliers is what locks it together. Now when it is in your vehicle it's not easy to see it. Also the connector is full of wires. You may need to loosen up with some yoga before trying this.

Great photo.

Will I get it off Sunday? The soap opera continues.....

Question for "BLM": Do the later models (2010 up) use this connector?

Nope, they use a 10 pin with the frustrating little red CPA (connector position assurance) lock. It’s a little easier to get to on the radiator core support frame but requires two steps to release it.

Made 3 attempts at it today. Still no success.
Maybe Monday will be better.

I GIVE UP. Unable to make any progress. Have no ideas on what to do. Afraid further attempts will damage wires/connector.

Just put everything back in place . Wife says "Leave well enough alone." "Your right dear", my reply.
