2019 Ram HD - WTF?

Post by 04Ram2500Hemi » Sat Apr 20, 2019 6:14 pm

So while getting the oil changed today I saw a new 2019 HD Ram in the showroom (not a Power Wagon). With excitement I opened the door, slid the seat all the way back, climbed in and smashed my knee on the dash. As I checked to make sure the seat was all the way back (and cuss like a sailor) I looked to see what I hit my knee on. Ram Engineers in their informant wisdom relocated the four wheel drive shifter on the dash, right where my knee was. I guess if you’re on average height this is not an issue, but at 6’8” this essentially tells me if the Power Wagon is like this, I’m in my last Ram Truck.

The power wagons still have the floor shifter for 4x4 and where the electronic 4x4 controls for the regular trucks are is where the sway bar and locker controls are

They essentially have the turn dial setup like the 1500s for the transmission but with the locker/sway bar buttons instead

That shouldn’t be a big deal since you’ve spent half your life with calves hanging off a bed made for regular people :).

Another pic here. The problem is where the rotary dial is. It’s the same as the HD I sat in yesterday. With the shifter being moved from the colum to the dash, a Neanderthal like myself doesn’t fit. I had every intention of a new Power Wagon in 2022. Now I’m not sure where my shopping will take me.

That's a real bummer 04Ram2500Hemi. I'm not as big as you, only 6'2" but I have similar feelings about the bucket seat/center console option in the the other Ram models. My right leg rests against it and after 5 minutes of driving I am uncomfortable.

Once my 2015 is ready for replacement I don't know what vehicle I will get. I wanted a PW since the came out in '05 and I truly wish I could use my PW as intended but where I live there really isn't any good places to wheel. I've only pulled a couple tree stumps and logs with my winch and played with my lockers for the hell of it but I must admit the truck is overkill for me. I am going to make it out to Moab before I get rid of it though. I watch the threads about the Moab trips and so badly want to experience that adventure.

A word of caution. I know of many people who quit jobs and moved west after one trip to Moab. My uncle in Florida even refuses to go, knowing the consequences. Once you realize all you are missing....
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

Im guessing you sat in a cummins truck, seeing how there is no twist knob for the shifter?

Honestly I don’t remember. I was too pissed off about how bad my knee hurt.

Well, the cummins trucks still get the 6 speed and lever shifter, while the hemis get the 8 speed with the twist knob shifter. I see no twist knob shifter in your pic.

Don't know what truck you actually got in, are you sure the seat was all the way back?! Hahaha
