Rusty's Build 2022 Gladiator Rubi Diesel

Post by RustyPW » Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:44 pm

Ok... I traded in my 2008 PW for a 2022 JTRD. Took advantage of the high trade in prices at the time. Plus mother natural was taking it's toll on the it. Tail gate was rusted out. Had a rust hole under the cab on the driver's side. The cost to fix it was between $4k to $7K. The foam on the driver seat was broken down, plus the gears for the power seat were stripped. The milage was 130,000. I wanted to be bury in it, but....time was time I think. I still miss it.

Had a problem on 3/3/22 that I know is a known issue. The fuses in the fuse box not being fully seated. 295 miles on the clock. Driving down a back country road. Hit a bump and the WHOLE dash goes black. Engine still running. Go about 200 yards and hit another bump and the dash comes back on. Get home, open the hood and check the fuses. Everyone was just sitting in their slots. Took a screwdriver and pushed everyone down.

My Rusty's Offroad skid plates for the rear lower control arm frame mount came in. They're beefy. 1/4" thick. They come bare, so I sprayed them with spray bedliner. Makes it easier to touch up.

Was a Beta tester for Clayton front springs.

Got the proto Clayton springs installed today too. The stock spring measure 17" tall. The Clayton's measure 18" tall. Both have the same number of coils at 9. The wire diameter for the stock spring is 0.593. For the Clayton's is 0.553. The Clayton springs raised the front by about an inch. The JT sits almost level. The ride is stiffer. It doesn't float.

In the 3rd picture. The big spring is a stock 3G Power Wagon spring.

The 4th picture is what the '22 bump stop looks like.

Got the front lower control arm axle side skid plates from Rock Hard install. They are side specific. The hook goes to the outside, toward tire. The driver side went on with no problems. The passenger side had issues. I had to notch the skid plate for the FAD to clear the nut. Plus I painted them with Plastic Dip Red.

Today, I opened up the hood vents. Took all of 30 minutes. Used a 4" cut-off wheel on a die grinder and a small air powered belt sander. Still have to get a roll of silver HVAC tape to seal out the edges of the underhood insulation.

Got the Rock Hard FAD skid plate installed. It was a PITA to install with the other Rock Hard front lower control skid plate installed. They both wanted the same piece of estate. Had cut a corner off of the FAD skid plate and grind some off of the control arm skid plate. Painted it red too.

Sprayed inside the frame rails with 3M Cavity Wax. Ordered 5 cans. Used 4 cans. It goes quick. Used the 30" wand for everything. After I gone done. It was dripping out. Think it will take a while for it to firm up.

Got the DesertDoesIt Shorty Front Seat Jackers installed today. Had to trim the carpet a little so that the mounts sit flush with the metal floor. After install, I found that I had to move my seat forward a few clicks.
