Acroweld powerwagon build

Post by Pasopwagon » Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:08 pm

To sum up this build I’ll be shooting for a solid family rig built for weekend warrior trips or long cross country tips alike.
Truck background: I purchased this truck in Idaho from a dealer who bought it from Canada. I live in Central California where we hardly get rain and we have no idea what snow is.
My background: I’m a career firefighter and a volunteer as well. I am a certified welder with a good general understanding of mechanics. With that being said I understand I DO NOT know everything and I’m always open to suggestions.

Here is a couple pictures to get started. I’ve started with a steering kit compromised of drag link and tie rod. I also replaced the track bar all from Synergy MFG. (about 25 minutes south of me in San Luis Obispo) I built a headache rack and also I had to upgrade to 35’s

The brakes need replacing bad so I started with the rears seeing they were the “squeaky wheel” <= I m Punny

I hit them with a wire wheel to clean them up then black primer and then black paint. Be careful not to kill the gasket.

Acroweld powerwagon build

Post by Pasopwagon » Wed Aug 14, 2019 3:56 pm

Image above is the current set up as of today. I went with the Fox Thuren 2.0 IFP shocks on 4 corners and the Thuren XS coils Imagemuch needed rear shocks Image
Thuren left and stock PW right
The Thuren XS coils provide 1.25” of lift over stock PW springs out of the box. Only time will tell the worn in height. Use your best guess.

Take away from this part of the build. Use a chassis/frame lift. And a nice coil spring compressor. ImageImage

The end results. (Stock rear except for fox shocks) sitting on 35”12.50R17 BGF KO2’s

Mock up has started. It’s 100 degrees so I’m ordering parts inside now. ie. fairlead and air fittings. Yes, air fittings. And possibly a kussmaul plug. Hint. Hint.ImageImage

Bumper is moving along. Finished with Cardboard CAD. Ready to start making mounts.ImageImageImage
I also changed my rear diff fluid using Amsoil and a lube locker gasket. Glad I did because in doing so I noticed the vent coming from the axle tube had broken off and was packed full of dried mud. These are the little things that eat up all of my time.

Great work man!

What fog lights are you going to use?

What about hilift points or dring mounts?

Thank you! It’s all in the works I got busy at work so might be going a little slower for a bit.

Acroweld powerwagon build

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the build. Most of the bumper is finished I went with ruff stuff for the clevis mount, Smitty built fairlead, lazer star lights. My usual powder coat company is about 2 moths out with work. Good for them bad for me. Image
I went with 35”x12.5 tires and managed to literally squeeze the spare into place.

Until I can get the wife to approve long arms I bought some cheap longer short arms. Nothing fit right I had to get bigger bolts for the lower arms (pictured above) and I had to cut the stock cam bolts out because they were seized into the bushing. All in all they feel wayyyy better over stock. ImageImageImage

I had the same issue with the bolts been frozen in place on the control arms. When I installed the new arms. I anti-seized the shit out of the bolts and nuts.
