05 PW upgrades!!

Drag link off pitman arm. Suppose to look like this! Now looks like that after some modifications to make it back home 3 1/2 hours.

Ordered complete DOR steering replacement set up. And now I have a steel driveshaft. Broke driveshaft Friday evening and got up and drove 70 miles to Austin TX and looked for one in the junk yards with no luck (Weird)! Went to multiple driveshaft shops and no one could do it the same day. Finally found a hole in the wall shop and the guy barely spoke English and he hooked me up. Said come back in 2 1/2 hours. So we went to Dave and Busters and drank some beer and played some games until he called me. Big thanks to that guy!! Back to the Offroad park and installed the driveshaft and wheeling again by 3 PM. Until about 11 PM when the drag link broke. Then trail fix and back to camp.

Wow! You sheared that right at the weld? How did you do that? Now I'm a little nervous, seeing all the recent driveshaft work.

I was doing a level 3 easy trail. Didn't even get on it that hard. Was in a big dip and tried crawling out but too steep. So I figured I was hit the throttle a tad and it didn't even make a sound just could feel something wasn't right and buddy said driveshaft broke! What tha????

There's been a lot of drive shaft issues lately it seems like. Maybe more of us need to do the SYE kit and a custom steel shaft...

HOLY FAWK>>>> I would say that I "warned" you. But I guess you figured that out yourself with the rear D-shaft. I THINK ALL PW OWNERS SHOULD UPGRADE TO A THICKER STRONGER SHAFT!!!!!!!!!!! Just for future info the tube needed to turn a stock D-shaft into a BULLET PROVE unit is 3 1/4" ID x 3 3/4 OD with a .250 wall DOM>>>> http://www.speedymetals.com/pc-3552-824 ... -tube.aspx If you do this simple upgrade, it will be MAJOR P.O.M. on the trail.... Just measure out your stock shaft from weld to weld/ order the steel from the link above, Take both pieces to a Dshaft shop to cut and weld install, get it balanced, and BAM, Bullet prove... I have had the ENTIRE weight of my rig on it driveshaft, turning on top of a rock with NO failures.

Factory drag links are a joke too.... Glad you upgraded to the DOR unit. Thuren makes a KILLER full set too.

Well I spent the last of my play cash from my buggy sell today. Spent over $3000 on a complete DOR steering system to fix the stock system that I broke last weekend. Then ordered some new wheels for the PW. Ordered 5 black 17" Hutchinson beadlocks. Yeah bit the bullet. Wanted these wheels from the start. Now I have them. Gotta save up a little more cash for suspension and new rubber to go on it.
