Pulled the dynaloc hubs off my tj and swapped in the drive flanges from the truck, I missed having lockouts on the street. Packing the new bearings and hubs with redline cv2 and getting them on the truck this weekend I hope.

It turns out that when the axle was trussed they put a weld washer on the track bar mount to reinforce it and it has rendered the stock bolt to short  McMaster Carr came through with a M16x2.0 80mm flanged hex bolt grade 10.9 to my door in two days for 12 bucks. The fastenal in town would only sell a pack of 25 for 110 and could have them in a week lol.

Maybe the old hole was oblong from a loose track bar. Nice replacement. I think you'll enjoy haveing the free spins on there again. It's nicer and quieter during highway rides ofcourse. Plus pick up some mileage and not wear out all your u joints as fast.

Been thinking of doing this on My 2012 Ram diesel. Free Spin Hubs.. Does it really make a big difference on the truck? How many of you all are seeing mileage gains? Is it that much quieter on the road. Is it worth the money spent?

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Gunny, the free spins made a noticeable improvement when I was on 35's with factory 4.56's. I got the same mileage as I did on the factory wheel and tire combo except I was running toyo mt's and heavy two piece beadlocks. Upsizing to 37's mileage took a shit regardless though lol.

The factory unitized bearing is pretty damn good but the forged spindle and hub with tapered roller bearings is strong like bull. No doubt in my mind one set of bearings would last the life of the truck if repacked every now and then. Also adjustable if you get any play rather than having to replace parts.

Steering feel is probably the biggest benefit. It's much lighter and smoother unlocked on the pavement and definitely quieter.

I carry an extra set of bearings already packed in vacuum sealed bags just in case but I've never needed them. I did the free spins more from the standpoint of reliability and durability and ease of service. I've beat the shit out of my front end and have no worries because the bearings are about the same size as the rear axle uses and even though they're strong as shit, they're the weak point of the hub assembly. They'll get sloppy and loose but you won't break a spindle unless you pull a Thelma & Louise lol. A factory unit bearing can let go and take your wheel with it, not gonna happen with free spins.

Ya not to
Mention bearings are 80$ not 670$ for the new unit bearings in the 10+ trucks! But super smooth on the street obviously. On highway I was seeing probably an additional 2l per 100km with hubs locked compared
To free spin. I think they're a great investment.

And.......dynaloc hubs don't fit in spyntec shorty freespins, damnit! Back to the drawing board on that one, either going to run regular lockouts or maybe go back to driveflanges and just pull the pucks when I'm city driving.
At least the hubs are on anyway.

Just picked up a 50qt arb fridge on sale today, then next major purchase will be gps and a ham radio for the truck. I think I've decided on a kenwood TM V-71A dual bander and a Lowrance elite 5m baja with external antenna. Also picked up a couple of sealed fuse/relay blocks that use metripack terminals and a sealed buss bar that has a couple of 12 pin deutsch connectors. Should be able to wire everything in with a damn near factory look and be environmentally sealed to boot.

Awesome gunny, you'll love 'em!

Got a little more done today, test fit the extreme overkill steering with emf tie rod ends and cycled it. Alls looking good just waiting on CJC to send one more rod end.

Talked to Yukon and Spyntec about my problem with the dynalocs and I'm going to try the Yukon hardcore lockouts. They should be here Monday. They're very low profile and strong with a design that's a cross between the dynaloc and an original spicer.

Pulled the rear seat today in preparation for a new/used 60/40 split bench I scored off eBay. While I had it out I pulled the carpet and tried to figure out how best to mount the fire suppression cylinders. Turns out I was able to trim the carpet and fit them into the under seat cubby's just fine!

The tie rod is a beast, larger o.d. than the track bar lol

With the carpet out the cubby extends quite a bit further

Trimmed out the cubby sides

Viola! I'll have to pull the seats and carpet next to run the actuation cables to the front.

If it's not too late, I'd recommend throwing some dynamat or similar under the rear cubby.
Helps knock down some of the noise into the cab.

I'd like to dynamat the rest of the truck... might line the doors this summer.

Yeah, dynamat is definitely happening, thanks for the suggestion. When I realized I have to strip the seats carpet and headliner to get everything installed correctly I was like "I'm an a-hole if I don't sound deaden it while I'm at it" lol

Got the lockouts from Yukon yesterday and test fit today. The quality and fitment are really good and they're a very simple and sturdy design. I ordered the wrong spacer on some bad advice from one of their distributors but I called them and the correct spacers are already on the way. Great customer service.

Can you measure from the flange to the outside of the locking unit? This setup you put together looks to be the shortest locking hub setup I have seen. Either that or your tire sidewall sticks out quite far

AZ- I'll get a measurement for you tomorrow and post up some pics

2wagons- I have a set of dynalocs on the bench so I'll lay them out next to the yukons and measure them, I would love if you could measure the length of your freespins so we can compare overall length against the spyntecs. Maybe I'll start a thread in general

Gunny- if your truck isn't all rusted to shit you should be able to knock it out in a day no problem. Pulling stock parts off and swapping the stub shafts probably takes more time than the rest of it. Do yourself a favor and get a box of nitrile gloves and a bearing packer if you don't already have one, it'll make life much easier. These days I average about 30 minutes a side going at an easy pace to put together or pull apart down to the bare knuckle. Anti-seize is your friend!!!! My first time took 5-6 hours though lol.

maybe three to four hours once your axles are ready to be pulled! Longest part is pressing in lug studs and doing the u joint swaps
