Desert Vacation Pictures

Hi all- I got back Saturday 4/27, from a week exploring Nevada and Death Valley. I put 1550 mi on the PW and averaged 11.5 mpg…I was on a lot of back country desert trails some smooth and some shitty ones, mostly in Death Valley. The first pictures are of the Hawthorne Ordinance Museum. Hawthorne Army Munitions Depot was recently in the news when several Marines were killed firing a Mortar. The Museum was having a monument installed for them at the time of my visit. The other pictures are of old mines and equipment-wild horses-Indian pictographs. I had some maintenance issues, and will start a thread in the general area on those problems.

Looked like Hunter Mountain very nice area.

I was thinking a taking a July (hottest time of the year) trip out to the DV area just to see if the PW and I could handle 120 degree temps.

I have done it before and with a fully stocked cooler (no alcohol, it speeds up dehydration) and some plain old common sense it is a lot of fun, at least to me.

Some of the higher elevation places might be good areas to end the day as it will be cooler..it was hitting 95 when I was at Furnace Creek and premium was $5.50 a Gallon.

Gas is very expensive in the valley I usually take an extra 5 gallon gas can and top everything off in Baker it's much cheaper.
