For the price you pay, if you're not doing an onboard air setup with a big tank, I'd say go buy two Viair 300p or the 400p https://amzn.to/2Xf1rNZ

You can buy two for less than the ARB twin unit and do two tires at once.
But, I wonder if an arb twin would fill a tire twice as fast as one of those? Which would result in less “stuff” to pack.

Tanks are good and all for quick punches for air tools and horns and such, but once they are empty then its back to relying on the compressors output. I dont really see the benefit of a tank for just filling tires.

Tanks help to cool the air and ditch moisture if you are also using the air for something besides filling tires. For just doing tires I think there is almost no benefit to a tank.

For a do it yourselfer who wants lots of air you go the modified air conditioning compressor route. If you dont have the dual alternator option, it seems like you could adapt it to where that would normally go. Plumb it all up to a large tank under the truck and you would have air for days.

One pump per tire, quick connects next to each tire and a control system It's going to be faster than anything else.

Looking at the output numbers, it should just about save half the time with a twin compared to a 440p which is Viairs strongest portable. I watched a test comparing the single and twin ARB. The single is equivalent to the 440p numbers wise. The Twin filled up a 35 from 15-32psi in 1:14 which was about a whole minute faster than the single ARB. I definitely don't need a tank as this will only be for tires and the less crap the better. I'm already just about out of storage in the cab.

I have a York compressor here, it’s 10 or 12 CFM. I would love to get this on the truck but mounting anything to these trucks in the serpentine arrangement is a bitch. There’s almost nowhere to bolt anything on to.

What about utilizing the location/setup where the second alternator would be mounted (although Im sure it would still be a pita though)?

Oh shit look at that!! Thanks for the link man! I searched everywhere for one, even the Jeepspeed one wouldn’t work on our engines. This must be pretty new!

I search periodically for them too. That one just popped up. Someone made just a Hemi bracket years ago but I have not seen one for a long time.

How about dual Viair compressors of some sort hooked up to a 5+ gallon tank? Seems like the OBA setups only come with 2.5 gallon tanks max. I'm wondering if the larger tank like 5 gallon would be beneficial for airing up all 4 tires from 20psi-40/35 quickly.

A 5 gallon tank like this design could work where the spare used to be. Slim enough so it won't hang down.

Marcus is the engineer, and I can't calculate the volume of a tire. I tried and failed to get a correct number.

But I do know the volume of a 2.5 gallon tank is 577.5 cubic inches but I can't grasp Boyles Law. But point being, I think you can caculate how much air tank you need for all four tires.

The problem is, I think these tanks are usually good for one or two tires before the Air compressor kicks back on.

After the tank is exhausted (a 2.5 gal tank typically only speeds up the first tire), you’re filling straight off the compressor.

Tanks aren’t for filling tires. They’re for running air lockers, air brakes, air tools, etc. Short duration, high flow/pressure or constant pressure applications that most compressors just can’t keep up with.

Got it. I was just curious if a larger tank would help with tire filling as that is all I'll need it for. I'm so torn with what to get and how much I want to spend.

That's for sure, but I don't want to deal with having to refill it or constantly worry about running out when its really needed. Plus it's pretty big to store.

A fish scale alleviates the worry about running out unexpectedly. CO2 is measured by weight, you know exactly how much you have left in the tank.

The quiet thing Colibri mentioned is a pretty nice side benefit, but not really a decision driver. I can easily maintain a conversation while airing up :)

True! The speed of CO2 makes it a little tempting.

Dang guys, was doing some research, I think I found something better than the ARBTwin at a GREAT VALUE if you wanted to copy my method of 1 per tire.

VIAIR 444C 200 PSI Dual Value Pack $289.95 & FREE Shipping - $579.90 so just a touch more than the ARBTwin but you will have 4 compressors putting out 3.53 CFM free flow at 0 psi.

Fill rate: 2.5 Gallon Tank 0 to 200 PSI 2 minutes and 30 seconds, 5 Gallon air tank 0 to 200PSI in 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

I am very very tempted to replace my setup. I dunno if these old compressor are worth anything at this point to try to get some money of of them. I gotta think about this.

The flow rate charts for Viair’s dual packs are for both compressors running. I compared the charts for the 450C single and dual pack.

Four 444Cs still put out more air than the ARB twin, but not massively more. ~1.75 SCFM @0 psi per compressor.

I haven’t had any experience with the Viar. I will say the Jeep fellas I have been around had nothing bad to say. I had the ARB twin in my Jeeps. I will say they are fast. I don’t worry about a tank. It would fill my 37s from 10 psi back to 30 in no time. I did have a failure with one. One day it just didn’t work. They did send me a new one after contacting them. Good customer service it seems. The Viar won’t be as fast but I think is a good unit, and have heard of no failures. I finally just installed the ARB in a craftsman toolbox and is sitting in the bed. Here's a couple of pics from my Jeep to the tool box.

I guess the others didn’t show up. Unless you are really airing up and down a lot, I would probably go with the cheaper version. Not sure which one will last longer, or if one is really better than the other. Mine failed but hopefully that was a fluke.
