Smilies are checked in my Settings tab, but I can't see them. Any suggestions from the more experienced Tapatalk users?

Depends on the smiley. Tapatalk uses its own smiley system to show images for the "stock" things like lol :-p rofl etc, I've added a bunch which are not stock like winchmob secret etc. since Tapatalk doesn't know what those are, nor have icons for them, it just shows the tag text instead. You should see

though because it's default.
