Re: 14+ 5.13 Gears, Noisy?

sounds like that shop was more specialized in cars, perhaps race cars. i would like to hear their reasoning for gears beyond 4.10 being noisy as it makes zero sense. likely just a forwarning to cover their ass when they dont do the job right while im not a mechanic by trade, my dad was ase master m...

Re: 14+ 5.13 Gears, Noisy?

Welp, I had spoken with the shop about my concerns, had them order the parts necessary, dropped it off this morning, and while speaking with them, they assured me gear ratios over 4.10 will likely make noise. Now, because of my concern with the noise, one of the primary reasons the truck is back wit...

Re: 14+ 5.13 Gears, Noisy?

steve it almost sounds like your pointing fingers at the gears when clearly the setup was all wrong from the get go. i can assure you aam gears are top qaulity from usa and /or mexico. i dont know why they include that instruction sheet with the gears, it could confuse a person if theyre not famili...

Re: 14+ 5.13 Gears, Noisy?

My 5.13s don't make a peep at least I don't hear them over my cooper stt pros or engine noise. Even with back glass open? What brand gears? I'm somewhat familiar with loud gear noises from my 2004 Disco 2. No noises from the 5.13s from AAM (rear) and Yukons (front). With back glass open or all wind...

Re: 14+ 5.13 Gears, Noisy?

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm leaning towards backlash being a too tight. I know incorrect pinion depth can cause whine on accel or decel depending on deep or shallow, but I'm thinking with proper pinion depth and too tight of a backlash it'll whine consistently. It's too bad a lot of gear setup s...

14+ 5.13 Gears, Noisy?

Weekend before last I began the install of my 5.13 gear set in the rear of my Wagon. Was slow-going as it was a bit of a learning process as well as not having the exact tools necessary to make the job more convenient. When completed I noticed there was an audible whine beginning around 35mph and su...

Re: 09+ steering junk

Yes, if you grab a hold of it you can turn it. It should be tight, but not impossible to move. Rod ends and such become a problem when they are sloppy and/or loose. Are you having any issues with the steering or is this something your mechanic pointed out during a general inspection? It's not unhea...

Re: Towing a smaller 5th wheel. Issues to be aware of?

Airlifter bags and Daystar cradles are the way to go to retain all of your Power Wagon articulation goodness while increasing your carrying capacity. Also bear in mind your local/state laws because while it is a 2500, and has all the appropriate framework and running gear, the door plate does specif...

Re: King 2.5 Shock Body / Frame Contact

I have noticed on my 2.5's, which I painted black, that on the left side there is a slight rub mark on the left side of the shock body about an inch. I'll see if I can't get a photo in a minute, but I have noticed that just from the few times I've articulated the truck (have yet to really wheel it) ...

Re: 2017 Decal on RAMBOX

I suspect I can peel it off with a heat gun and a gentle touch. I don't have much experience with body work though. Anyone ever try to remove/reapply decals? Won't work, period. Unfortunately even with a heat gun they will stretch and deform as you remove them, as well as rip, tear, and fall apart....

I don't remember exactly, but its enough that its worth having it recalibrated. Not difficult at all if you get an OBDlink and AlfaOBD. No idea what the dealership would charge.

Re: Need help. What does my PW have?

Quick question, is the smart bar supposed to allow disengagement in 2wd? I disconnected the plug to it and looked inside to be sure it wasn't corroded and it wasn't. The rubber seal was in good shape and intact. It gives me the dumb flashing light randomly like it's trying to disengage and the 4x4 ...

12v Constant on Trailer Plug?

Its a long story regarding the grand incompetence of multiple parties, but suffice it to say, I had to replace the main chassis harness in my truck leading from the bulkhead connector in the driver's fender well to the rear of the truck. That being said I found the replacement harness to be defectiv...

Re: 545rfe fill tube grommet question

Looks like the grommet that would seal the transmission dipstick tube where it goes in to the case above the tranny pan. I would imagine you need to cut a hole in it. If you can use the dipstick tube and push it through on a piece of cardboard that might be best. Put the tube in from the wrong side ...

Has anyone thought of connecting the airlines together before the fill port? I really don’t haul uneven loads. And if one bag is leaking for some reason I’d like them to stay the same pressure. My two thoughts The problem with that would come from stability. On a level, static surface that might wo...

I had the dealer remove all the decals on mine as part of the deal when buying it(new). They said they have a big “oven” room in their body shop, that is able “to heat the truck and then the decals peel off really easily”. I’m sure a hair dryer and patience would work, goo-gone if any adhesive rema...

Re: Paint

I have. It's tedious and time consuming. I stripped the decals off, got tired of using adhesive remover for the lines left around the perimeter of the decals and ended up having a local detailer polish it. Unfortunately they scraped the shit out of the paint using plastic scrapers (I hope they would...

Thuren rear track bar. The rear track bar is a common complaint on these trucks because of crappy stock geometry. I never really paid much attention to mine, but I just installed my Thuren rear track bar this weekend and realized how much more stable it is.
