Re: Rusty's Build - 2008 POWER WAGON RC

Did more work on the truck today. 1st pic. Got lots of suspension travel in the front. 2nd pic. Measuring for limit straps to keep the front springs from falling out. My 14.5' Carli straps are too short. Need around 16" straps. 3rd pic. Replaced the rear brake line with a 4" longer stainless brake ...

Night time shots. I do think I need to buy longer bolts with a spacer to better center the pod light in the bumper pocket. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210502/3fe22ade6f6a8007456410fac0695831.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210502/d6e292f834c0ea090f5ee32c629b419e.jpg Sent from my Moto Z...

Re: Peter's 2019 Power Wagon Build Thread

Nice Pete. Good to see it progressing. Got to get some rattle can on that frame...lol. I just today installed Baja Designs Squadron Sport Wide Cornering lights on my Thuren bumper to replace my OE fogs. Liking them so far. I guess we are in sync on that selection. I am considering drilling 4 more ho...

Re: Coolest Nerd Tools

Nerd tool #3. Weather Pack connector crimper. I used this to crimp connectors for the Baja Designs lights. They use Weather Pack connectors. The only thing that would have made this more nerdy is if I got the ratcheting crimper that crimps both crimps at the same time. This one is a 2 step process. ...

Re: SimonandSimonBeast Build

I just installed the Baja Designs lights in the Thuren bumper. I used the original fog light harness from the OE bumper so that it would be plug and play with the OE fog light connector and controls in the cab. I clipped off the 2 OE connectors where they connected to the OE fog lights and crimped t...

Re: SimonandSimonBeast Build

The spec's on that says it's for 3/8" cable. But the PW has 7/16" cable. Will the hook handle the 7/16" cable? Yes, it handled the 7/16" steel cable no problem, with room to spare. Also, I confirmed with Factor 55 that the closed recovery feature could handle up to 7/8" shackle pins. Sent from my M...

Nerd tool # 2, yes, it has something to do with electrical work. Picked up this one motion wire stripper. Been using the old type for so long twisting and hoping that the sheathing pulls off. No more of that crap. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210429/9501856cc1a91d62520151613371ce72.jpg Sent fr...

Re: SimonandSimonBeast Build

Sweet, looks real clean! Do they come in different colors? Yes, several colors. I picked red because I have some red highlights on the truck. Exactly why I like it. Very clean, tidy look. It feels very safe snugging up by hand. The rubber sits nicely against the rollers. No worries about getting a ...

Factor 55 Ultra Hook came today and went on in about 5 mins. Kind of surprised about how it just fits in the fairlead. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210429/87d47ea86b4a4861144a5e2e099adf42.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210429/d6a46d56e6235b83f168f03be5a61acd.jpg Sent from my Moto Z (2)...

Re: EMF or Dynatrac Ball Joints?

I'm on Carli joints for just over a year now. Can't really give you a long term review on them, but I haven't seen any complaints. My thinking is at the price point $800 (for uppers and lowers), and a lifetime warranty, why rebuild. If they are as robust as Carli thinks they are to give a lifetime w...

Coolest Nerd Tools

So, after installing my Thuren bumper and fairlead I needed to spool in my winch. Connected my controller, flipped the switch and nothing. Long story short I determined one of the female pins on the connector was too corroded. I worked on it with WD-40 and a paperclip for a while to get connection. ...

Also have a Factor 55 Ultra Hook on the way. I want to get rid of the clunky OE hook.

Re: SimonandSimonBeast Build

The Warn 69394 was the ticket. It had a wider opening vertically to allow the crimp to reel in tight. I still have a flip up vanity plate bracket to install, for my beach buggy tag. Baja Design lights should be here tomorrow. Here is is with the fairlead. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210425/2d...

Re: SimonandSimonBeast Build

I picked up a Warm roller fairlead 5742. I discovered that although stout the vertical opening between the horizontal rollers are not wide enough to allow the crimp and loop on my wire rope to feed through so that the hook can reel back flush. I see another Warn 69394 roller fairlead that states it ...

Re: SimonandSimonBeast Build

Looks great. Really changes the entire look of the truck. Thanks. Functional, too. I kissed my OE bumper on a monster boulder when I was in Virginia a few weeks ago. This would have cleared easily. It would have been all tire. Now I have to get a rear matching bumper to finish the de-chroming. Liki...
