Re: Airing down how low?

Before writing this post, I'd like to say that I just took a bunch of painkillers for a back problem...so I cannot be held responsible for anything I say. :) Airing back up is something I've messed with quite a bit over the years, and it's one of those things where there really isn't any 'best' way ...

Re: Airing down how low?

How low a pressure you can run really depends on the kind of 'wheeling you do, and your driving habits. I've gone as low as 5psi, but that is in the winter when there's little traction to be found...plus, I normally drive very slowly off-road. If you're the kind of guy who drives full-throttle, slid...

Re: Crawling the Mall

My experience is that folks will always disagree with you about something, no matter what you do. Heck, when I first got my Power Wagon my friends labeled it the "yuppie truck" because of how new/shiny/expensive it was, and even though it's beat to heck at this point the 'yuppie truck' will always b...

Re: Good site to make sure your vehicle is legal

Supposedly we have lift laws up here in the upper peninsula of Michigan, but they don't seem to enforce them for the most part. Heck, a while ago they started allowing ATVs and snowmobiles to use the normal roads (even without plates or lights) and I've even seen 10 year old kids driving around on g...

if you think your an idiot then i'm a super idiot with the number of times i've been stuck and walked out. take this as a good lesson to learn from. working on search and rescue we come across alot of people with poor health who aren't prepared for any type of emergency. some times they come out in...

Re: Mall Crawlers

Personally, I like to see some Power Wagons that aren't beat to death offroad - that means that there'll be nice unmolested ones on the market in a few years if I need to get another one! :D

After all, I certainly wouldn't buy a used PW that looked like mine.

Re: I am an idiot...

Have ya tried any of the local trail groomers? For a case of beer I'm sure those guys would gladly divert their snowcat for half an hour. Yeah, I thought about that...there's a trail only about 2 miles from where my truck was, though I have no idea what their normal grooming schedule is. I'd have t...

Re: I am an idiot...

what happened to the rear light assembly ? It fell out a month or two ago, and I just haven't replaced it yet...though I probably should, as eventually I'll wind up with a ticket. I just get annoyed at having to replace the dang things all the time...I thought about putting one of those slow-moving...

Re: I am an idiot...

I'm glad to report that my truck has been rescued from its predicament - a couple of my friends went out there today and managed to dig it out of the snow. After checking the maps, we realized that the shortest way in to my truck was actually cross-country from another road - so they snowshoed in th...

Re: I am an idiot...

I'm pretty glad I had cell phone service - otherwise I'd have been in a bit of trouble, since in knee-deep snow the maximum distance I can walk is about 20 feet. :) A few years back I made a decision to get a couple of those pre-paid phones on different providers, and then get phones that could be a...

I am an idiot...

Well, I decided to see how much snow was out in the woods this afternoon...and managed to get my truck stuck miles away from the nearest plowed road. I called someone to come in and get me, and they used a snowmobile since the snow is too heavy to drive through with most trucks out there. Not sure w...

Re: Axle hop in snow

You missed my point, or I should have explained myself better. Changing up your driving style and being easier on the throttle can help. It also prolongs the life of tires, rear differential, etc. snow or no snow. I actually go really easy on the throttle in snow - the full throttle thing was kinda...

Re: Axle hop in snow

I have never had an issue with axle hop in snow with either my PW or my old 01 1500 Off Road pickup and I drive in a lot of snow. Treat the gas pedal like you are stepping on an egg-nice and easy. That eliminates axle hop. Weird...perhaps the snow out west is a lot different consistency th...

Re: Axle hop in snow

Did you run that low pressure with all your weight in the bed? No - I don't have any weight in the bed this year, mainly because it snowed and got cold too early this winter and I just wasn't prepared. You'd think that after having lived up here my entire life I'd have everything ready, but winter ...

Re: Axle hop in snow

As others have said, airing down will provide the biggest improvement in snow - both in preventing hopping, and in overall traction. The springs I installed helped, but I still combine it with lower tire pressure for the best effect. Earlier this winter I tried different tire pressures, all the way ...

Re: Random thoughts- fender removal & cutting, 1" lift & 40s

While I've been out of the loop for a while and don't really have any tire advice, I do have one thought on the whole "fitting large tires with a small lift" thing. In my past experience, nearly all problems can be fixed with fender trimming - with the one major exception being the clearance on the ...

Re: Frozen mud & airbag fuses

Do you know anybody with a big garage and a downward sloped driveway? Yeah, I've been thinking about that...trying to figure out who has a combination of a garage large enough for the PW, and is willing to let me make a bit of a mess. :) I suppose that with a tarp I should be able to do it relative...

Frozen mud & airbag fuses

Well, I had a bit of a misadventure in the ol' Power Wagon this past weekend...which has left me with some new questions. Long story short, on a 'wheeling trip I ended up on the wrong side of a trench that was about 4 feet wide and 3+ feet deep - and needed to get across it to get back to civilizati...

Re: Truck pics (to make other folks feel better)

Probably something for sale at PEP BOYS to remove that in one application. That's true...they do sell a lot of miracle products, and there's probably something that'll help that buff right out. stamm20 - I live in the Upper Peninsula, on the MI/WI border. Not quite the middle of nowhere, but I can ...

(Note to self) : NEVER , and I mean NEVER , loan PW to anyone. That's probably a good idea...I mean, I tell folks who borrow mine to park way out in the lot away from the other cars so that it won't get scratched, but you never really know if they actually do it. :D Seriously, even though I'...

Re: It Was Bound to Happen Sooner or Later

Those pictures are of the underside of the body/cab. When I hit the berm the running board pushed upwards and deformed the holes where the rivnuts mount. I'm going to have to take a look at where my running boards are attached...I know that I've bottomed out on mine a few (dozen) times, and I never...

Truck pics (to make other folks feel better)

I decided earlier today to take a few pics of my truck, to document my current level of damage for future reference. As I sometimes do, I figured that I might as well post them here so that folks can properly appreciate how nice their trucks look compared to mine. :D BTW, I do actually have tail-lig...

Re: Uh-oh, it has started......

The way I look at it, all the battle scars just mean that you don't have to worry about it anymore - so you can take new trails you wouldn't have attempted when your truck was still new and shiny. Heck, now I can't even tell if the dents are new or old...except when I bust the taillights, or knock o...
