What makes you say that AGMs are hard on alternators?

I'm running the Toyo ATIIs now and, at almost a year and almost 21K miles, I have to look at replacements. I'm below 6/32s" and they're starting to spin a bit too much...

A "clunk" is now gone that was "normal" ---- I'd hear it over speed bumps, sometimes loud. I never could find anything loose underneath.
And it's shifting like butter; fuel economy is up a little too.
Go figure.

A 2005 @ 170,000 miles could more or less be 1770 miles/month.

I've had mine 27 months and have 50,000 miles. Roughly 1851 miles/month.
