Re: The Inside of a Power Wagon Wheel
I noticed that the Method Trail series wheels have something similar to the PW bead retention nub, plus some biting ridges at the bead itself. This isn't a recommendation for their wheels, as I don't actually own a set, but curious how much it helps retain the bead in low pressure situations.

Similar issue for my 2005 Ram 1500, but I had the machine shop shave down an Allen key for accessing the drain bolt on the transfer case.

Re: (New) Toyo A/T III
I have the Toyo AT2 (285/75R17) and I am happy with them, so far. I am coming up on 6k miles, and getting ready to rotate for the first time. I have found that these particular tires perform very differently depending on air pressure. At 40 PSI front, 30 PSI rear (unloaded) I find that they do just ...

(New) Toyo A/T III
URL: https://www.toyotires.com/product/open-country-at3 3PMSF (I think all A/T tires should conform to that standard), and the tread layout more closely resembles the Duratrac approach that so many others have adopted (packed inner treads with pronounced outer lugs). Under "More Evenly Distributed V...

New MT/R size: 275/80R17
I was browsing tires and noticed that a new size of the Goodyear MT/R Kevlar is being released: 275/80R17
There aren't manufacturer specs released, yet (true dimensions, recommended wheel width, etc.), but that calculates to 34.3 x 10.8. Tire Rack says it will weight 60 lbs.

Re: Hubcentric rings
I have the centering rings for my aftermarket wheels on my Ram 1500. The ones I have are a nylon composite material, which is fine because they won't galvanically corrode to the wheel. I have push-through center caps, so the rings I have are sized for the cap bore (106mm) and not the wheel bore (108...

Re: Tire pressure opinions
FWIW... I have a 2005 Ram 1500 (obviously lighter than the PW's), and I run my 285/70R17 Duratracs at 45 front / 40 rear. That gives me the best equalized wear both front and rear when empty or with a light load (bikes and coolers).

Re: Auto tranny service.....$450.00.
I went to Walmart and spent $10 or $15 on a low-profile, wide plastic bin that was able to catch fluid spilling from all edges of the tranny pan. Didn't get a drop on the driveway, and it made the whole exercise a much cleaner job. Too bad I didn't install an aftermarket pan with the drain bolt for ...

Re: New Nitto Ridge Grappler tires (hybrid)
One thing I am liking about the Ridge Grappler is that they are releasing two versions of the 285/75R17. One will be a Load E (80 PSI Max) 121Q and the other will be a Load C (50 PSI Max) 117Q. As the owner of a Ram 1500, a 50 PSI tire with a 117Q (2835 lbs.) rating sounds like a great option. If th...

Re: Leak
I've had the exact same gasket problem that TwinStick references on our '04 Durango. Easy fix. The thermostat housing only has two bolts that hold it to the block (metal-to-metal interface), with the thermostat gasket acting as the seal. Over time, I'm sure the heat cycles affect the sealing capabil...

Re: Oil pressure sensor question
What azracer said. I've replace the hemi oil sensor for exactly the situation described (on a 2004 Hemi Durango). The internal seals in the sensor started leaking through to the connector, and I would get an intermittent oil pressure light. For my situation, the dash light came on / off quickly (alo...

Re: Here we go again............
When changing something like a pinion seal, the crush sleeve doesn't have to be replaced unless it's already been re-torqued a time or three. In order to have proper preload on the pinion gear, then crush sleeve needs to be ever so slightly crushed further when torqueing down the pinion nut... which...

Re: Wheel Talk
Nice looking wheel. What back spacing you go with? I went with the 17"x8" size because I don't ever plan on running anything larger than about a 12" wide tire. Only offset for that size and bolt pattern is 0mm, so the backspace is 4.5". This is a 2005 Ram 1500, so it only moved the wheel o...

Not a Power Wagon, but I run just about the same wheel as RustyPW. Rotary forged Polished finish Made in the U.S.A. Reasonably priced Clean styling 3200 lb. load rating for a 44" tire... overbuilt for my application. I'm sure the studs will all shear off before the wheel breaks. I found a set of low...

Exposed tires on the roof always bother me, since you know the vehicle is never garaged and the tire just needlessly dry-rots in the sun every day. Always seems like such a waste to me.SheepdogOutdoorsman wrote:After seeing this I wanna get my truck wrapped!

I hear nothing but good things about the Hankook MT. Just seems to perform well in every comparison test, though I don't personally know anyone who has run a set. Discount Tire sells Pro Comp, so the MT2 might be worth a look. I hear they can be loud, but I'm not sure if that is a major concern. I d...

I'm impressed that:
1) The black Dodge was able to drive away with the rear bumper still attached.
2) The red Dodge was able to escape without a hydro-locked engine.

PUTC reviews the 2014 Power Wagon
Link: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2014/05/2014-ram-power-wagon-first-drive.html Good read. Question about center caps. In the review, they approve of the lower-profile center caps used on the new wheels, saying they are less vulnerable to hitting rocks and such. I thought that one of the purposes o...
