EMF ball joints installed

Post by DocPaulo » Mon Jan 29, 2018 3:44 pm

Finally got my emf ball joints installed... very happy with build quality... havent driven it much to tell yet how good they are...

I had a challenge getting my rusted lower bj off.. broke down and bought a milwaukee impact wrench rated for 700ftlbs fastening... it made short work of popping the joints out... much better than a 4ft breaker bar...

Excellent! Make sure that lower joints adjuster is not right against the ball, you’ll get weird handling. It’s gotta be just a touch loose.

Thanks.. saw that in their video that it needed to be wiggle loose... i did mess up in that i didnt orient the setscrew to be accessible without taking tire off... remembered it after the fact

Maybe a blonde moment, but what did the impact do for you at getting the lower joint out?

Driving the press... i broke a 1/2 breaker bar with a 4ft cheater... the impact turned that screw like butter...

Ah yeah the concept is to load the press up and then smack the knuckle with a hammer. The impulse usually pops it free. It can be very exciting when you’re turning the screw by hand and it lets go :excited:

I used a press like those but the breaker bar broke... used the high torque impact and the press removed it without difficulty...

Anybody doing this should use a press and a high torque impact

I damn near broke my snap on press trying to get the old ball joints out of my axle after it had been trussed. All the heat from welding the 3/8” knuckle gussets hardened the knuckle bore I think. When it let go finally it literally sounded like a gun lol

Good looking joints, emf makes quality stuff. Good job tackling that yourself sir!

For those planning this... the lbj grease fitting is on the bottom and with 17 wheels is not accessible even with a 90 coupler ... learned the hardway

Definitely HD... also rebuildable..

Actually with the strong US to CDN rate price is cheaper than similar options...

The adjustability will make it last a long time
