Removal of rear sway bar?
Removal of rear sway bar?
I was thinking about taking off my rear sway bar. Does anyone notice any loss in control or increased body roll with highway driving?
I want purple cranium diff covers and I want to get a thuren kit but I don’t want the sway bar to rub. It would save me a few hundred on the links as well

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
If you always have the OE front sway bar connected you'll probably be fine. However, the 14+ trucks are sensitive to weight because of how far inboard the rear springs are. I'd probably just make a spacer for the rear sway bar, the diesel guys running the larger capacity diff covers go through the same problem.
Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
You can just flip the rear sway bar. I'm going to remove mine in Moab and when I put it back on I'll flip it.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
I am imminently working on a solution to run the Thuren swaybar links with rear diff covers. If things work right I’ll have a cheap solution. Prototypes are already in my hands. You can run without the rear swaybar but really the tears of these trucks ought to have one on, with how onboard the coil springs sit.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
After installing my 2.5” King Thuren kit, I test drove without the rear sway bar. There was a noticeable small amplitude sway that I think was within the front sway bar dead spot, and not great enough that the shocks could damp it fast enough for my liking. I made DIY spacers, got longer bolts, put the sway bar back in. Small amplitude swaying went away.
Sounds like Damagewagon has the commercial solution to this problem coming along shortly.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
need the spacers. im on board so let us know.
my half cranium is taking a beating on the surface. honestly, the sticker has worn with slight abrasion to the spider metals plate.
i have made some loud contact, but the bar is not damaged. it is only a sound annoyance at this point.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
I’m testing it out tomorrow
Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
You must be making a lot more contact than I am... I can't tell if I'm hitting or not. But it's really really close and I'm sure it would if I drooped it out.
DamagedWagon, I'll take a set of your first production run spacers.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
The swaybar makes contact w/the half spider in compression. If you’re looking with the suspension drooped you’ll never see itTankerZak wrote:You must be making a lot more contact than I am... I can't tell if I'm hitting or not. But it's really really close and I'm sure it would if I drooped it out.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
Either way, I haven't heard it. But I'm also taller than most in the rear with an additonal 1 inch spacer.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
What for DamageWagon's spacers. The rub is just going to rub the paint/powder coat off. It won't damage anything. Mine has been rubbing for some time.
If you tow, or have anything like a RTT in the back, you want your sway bar connected. If you guys are running Thuren's kit, when you disconnect the rear sway bar, you'll get a TON of flex out of the whole system. See the pictures attached:
Depending on what I'm doing, and if I have the tent or not, depends on when I have the sway bar connected. I prefer it for towing, tent and highway. Offroad without the tent, I like to disconnect it.

Someone needs to come up with a manual QD system.

Re: Removal of rear sway bar?
There are none you can buy. I looked. But there are a LOT of DIY examples online. Jeepers have been building these for years. It's fairly inexpensive.
Usually, for me, the only time I remove mine is when I'm in Moab, and I usually happen to be in Moab for a week or so, and I end up just removing the whole bar. For a lot, and I mean a lot of stuff, I don't see the benefit. It's not until you're doing some technical crawling that it's an added boost, IMO.
