Best Build Decision? Leather....
Because if you build a new Power Wagon with cloth you are stuck looking at the tread pattern for those shit Wrangler Dynatracs forever! Seriously, how inappropriate is this soft tire for this truck? In 16K miles I have had a slight nick in a sidewall on a DIRT road that took out a rim as well. 2 days ago I found a flat tire in the garage, yesterday got it fixed and it had TWO different holes, no nails, just holes. Why could they not charge us a little more and give us some nice BFG MT or something that is not so soft. Granted my 2005 Xterra and Titan came with flat Trail T/As that lasted under 15K with dozens of flats....come on. My wifes 05 4 runner Nitto Grabbers have only seen one flat in 55K and it was a NASTY piece of metal on the highway.
I have not even wheeled my PW yet!!! What will happen when I take these crappy tires on easy to moderate trails for the holiday? I almost ordered BFGs yesterday, but hard to justify with 80% tread left. I realize I live off-road sort of, but come one...

Sell ‘em before you lose any more tread. The Jeepers love them in 33”.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....
I know there are some people that love the Duratrac but for me changing to a BFG KO2 was the best single move I have made. My truck rides better and quieter with a larger tire (35") and I haven't seen a significant change in MPG even with a tire that is heavier and larger. My Duratracs were well worn with only 25K miles and that is when they were replaced. Seems to me these tires are the best choice for a heavy vehicle.

There are lots of options to reupholster your seats. It's just a big pain.
And yeah, first time at Moab and I destroyed a duratrack and holed another one. That's also when I found you can't mount TPMS sensors in your spare(s). There are still some poor decisions being made at corporate.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....
They will give me 260.00 trade in on the Duratracs. Of course one is a new 300.00 tire. As usual BFGs have to be ordered so no tires for the 4th. I was thinking of the KM3 M/T. I had A/T on my Titan for years was very happy. But to me the M/T would look nicer. Also thinking of one size up. Not sure I am ready for bumper trimming for 35s yet.

You don’t need trimming for 35s. If you flex the truck with the right steering wheel input and romp on it, the driver side will self-clearance the front of the fender liner, but that’s a condition I haven’t been able to replicate in the driveway.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....
Holy crap. So cancelled my holiday trip to Silverton early. Cross over the Animas river since there is not bridge, went around Kendell Mtn and started up Astra gulch and with 2" between death and a rock wall the first Dura Trash goes sppppppppppffff. Got in 20 minutes of light duty wheeling. We then go to camp up a graded, gravel road in Cunningham. And spppppppppppfffffffffffffffff flat tire at camp. 2 Sedan rental drivers ask how even a modern street tire would be so vulnerable to a dirt road. I lower air pressure to 35PSI hoping that too much air pressure is the issue. Next we tackle an easy trail, Corkscrew....and we make it!!! Get back to camp jump out happy, and a tire is off the rim. We now cancel all plans to do some real fourwheeling with the power wagon and Black Bear, Imogene and Poughkipsee. My clothes are all trashed from changing tires, the gas station is out of plug kits thanks to me....in a new 70K worlds best off road truck. NOW I am really pissed, so I stop on the way down and buy a freaking gold mine! ( as I type this we excepted a counter offer)
I plan to call both Ram and Good Year to complain Monday. (I know, wont do any good, but they cost me 59,000.00 for a gold mine, which is cheap for a few reasons.....)
So as I analyze the failures. Obviously the sidewalls are so paper thin, don't even think about touching curb or rock. But the last dozen flats are all between the lugs, and at an angle under these little fish scale looking tread pieces. No nails, no serious four wheeling, just any pressure cracks the belt. So, I am left to determine that either;
1. These tires are just plain junk.
2. Or Ram asked for a cheaper, junky version to save money.
3. Or they are simply defective.
Has anyone EVER gone off-road with these tires new and not had a flat?

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....
I trashed one and got a repairable flat off-road at Moab. The other guy running stock tires trashed one on the highway driving to the trail and got a flat on a trail. Of the other 19 trucks I think there were 1-2 flats total. ! Toyo IIRC.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....
That tells me these tires are just shit. To be clear, Moab trails are probably the worlds easiest on tires. Add to that I am getting flats driving to my house on a gravel road. This really should be an embarrassment to Ram.
So everyone is liking Toyos over BFG for some reason? Kevin did you swap out your tires already? Did you go 35s?

I have not. Been thinking of 35s or 37s. Haven’t figured out what I want. The Toyo, BFG, nitto all seem good.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....
Going down to order KM3s 35" in a little while at Discount Tire on Paseo.( they need to look and see what the can still give me for the Dura Trash) 100.00 off sale ends today for BFGs. I cannot handle the stress of having flat tires any more. Late for work even lately. BFG I know. But my wife's Nittos have been fine. And her 4 runner has seen way more wheeling in 48,000 miles.

Heck yea, I am curious about those tires.
I have 18k on my Duratracs with no issues yet. Can’t wait to get them off though.

1. The OEM first race suck and appear to be different from the tires you can purchase in stores
2. You bought a gold mine? Is this a euphemism or...
Toyo’s are hard as heck to kill. One Toyo went flat in Moab but it was an AT.
Can you throw in an update on those KR3’s when you’ve used them? I haven’t heard any feedback on those yet!

Discount tire in AZ right after Moab said they were coming out “soon” but all he’d seen were the press releases and the sales guys singing praises. I’d like to hear more from an actual user.

Tires on order, 5 days away so they say.....And cheaper then the KO2s, weird.
Yep, a gold mine. I have contingencies based upon survey which is a mess and and could kill it and Avalanche survey I am going to do. Its at the Stony Pass cut off. You can see the Old Hundred. I don't want it if I cannot build a retirement home in the big timber.

So, most guys suggest Toyos and you get something else? This will almost certainly generate some "told you so's" down the road.

BFG's are super shitty and have been known to delaminate on HD trucks. I doubt there's a difference between KO3 and KO2. Hence why everyone recommends Toyo or Nitto.Ducky's Dad wrote: ↑Sun Jul 08, 2018 4:26 pmSo, most guys suggest Toyos and you get something else? All of the tire failures at PWIM 2018, 35 trucks and all failures were Duratrac.

If the KM3’s are derived from their race tires like they claim, they should be BITCHIN. The KO2’s are garbage but the KR/2/3 tires are saweeet. Have heard zero feedback so hopefully they do you well!
And buying a goldmine is the coolest thing I’ve heard in a while. Props to you dude!!

They are not KR3’s, like the KR race tires. They are KM3’s, just a refresh of the KM2.DamageWagon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 08, 2018 11:17 pmIf the KR3’s are derived from their race tires like they claim, they should be BITCHIN.
