Brakes squealing

Post by olyelr » Sun Jun 10, 2018 9:05 am

Anyone have issues with their brakes squealing during light to moderate braking? They dont squeal at all with no braking or hard braking. Under 20k miles and the pads and rotors look like brand new. Seems to only happen once they warm up a bit. Im at a loss, and it is getting extremely annoying.

Brake dust most likely.

Maybe Fluid Film overspray getting glazed on the pads and rotors.
It's like running your finger around the rim of a wine glass and making it sing, requires just the right amount of friction and speed to cause harmonic distortion, change one of the factors and it goes away.
You could try sanding the glazed surface off the pads and rotors. Takes a little time but doesn't cost anything. It might come back however.

Thanks fellas.

What would I use to sand them down with, just some fine grit sandpaper?

David, the fluid film comment made me lol, although it could certainly be the culprit!

Long dirt roads and my just squeal. Dirt/Dust particles are the likely culprit if they aren't worn.
