Well glad to see I’m not the only one that came across the issue, luckily I don’t typically have the truck weighed down so the removed bar is hardly noticeable. Just wanted to put the info out there for future reference, might save somebody the head-scratching.

maybe this is the clunk i hear/feel swallowing speed bumps on road... if it wasnt monsooning, i would check for damage

I didn't take it that way at all. That was just an in jest reply. :cheers:

I spent most of PWIM with it removed because it does ride better. But once the tent is on, or the Airstream hooked up, it's needed. I've been thinking about making quick disconnects for fast removal for crawling stuff. But a couple bolts isn't bad either. We shall see if I get around to it.

Check your mounting bushings. Somehow my front driver side bushing on top of the shock is already torn and needs replaced. Depending on what I hit in the road, it will make a clunk noise.

over tightening on those bushings in a pintop style will create great torsional stress... lots of sounds on wranglers from these.


i did think the bushings looked alittle too oblong and overcompressed. on the jeep jk, we used a certain grease to lube the contact surfaces on these bushings.


ill check them out.

Lubing pintop bushings isn’t going to do anything to help them, there is no movement except the compression of the rubber itself. Pintops suck but there’s no getting around that with bolt-in parts.

Used to do that on poly bushing on the Camaro, they came with grease.

youd be surprised by the amount of noise over compressed bushings make if you havent experienced it.

grease worked in the past.

i boogied in the yard last night and the suspension cycle sure does make alot of noise. rear sway bar is eating away at the sticker on the rear spider. maybe no sticker or hammered paint and it would clear. i believe i have contact somewhere with the front axle as well.

sway bar has no gouging or disfigurement. wear and tear or weight in the rear may shrink the clearance.

may need to keep an eye on that, sway bar could be done away with for my use, but is 800Lbs in the cab going to be too loose? boogie with the whole family?
