If Bilsteins are junk how do Ranchos rank? Less than junk?
Ranchos are budget emulsion shocks with an expensive sticker.

True dat. I've owned four vehicles with stock spec'd ranchos and they were all done within 40k miles. My bilsteins were just starting to fade when I swapped them at 50k.

With the Thuren front spring only. It's the correct length stock, as is the front track bar. You don't need the entire kit. Thuren rear springs and swar bar links, and Kings should be going on tomorrow or Tuesday.

This is true. I ran Thuren springs and stock Bilsteins for some time..maybe 5k miles. They work but aren't 'ideal'. However, going to stage 5 kings had me in the other direction, undersprung and overdamped. That's a great thing offroad :D

Yeah, I ran through Moab like that and it worked just fine but Top of the World did beat the shit out of me... lol. Can you elaborate a little on what you mean by undersprung and overdampened? What the experience is like?

Long, soft springs and leaving chassis control heavily in the hands of the dampers is a better way of putting it. Not undersprung or overdamped necessarily haha. Exactly the direction you want to go for off-road use, of course you can go too far in any direction

Yeah I got my truck and thought ‘man this is the perfect truck for me, I’m not touching this one unless it needs it.’ Three months later it needed King 3.0’s and bypasses and a trackbar and a lift

Hahaha ain’t it always the way, I bought a power wagon because it didn’t “need” anything lol.

In offroad racing springs are considered to be there more or less only to establish ride height. Chassis control and suspension character are all shock valving. Carli doesn’t use that tuning philosophy as far as I can tell, but Thuren sure seems too.

After coming off that shitty Top of The World trail and then seeing how much smoother your truck was even on just that campsite trail at speed it was a no brainer... and you finished that trail like 30-45 minutes before me and i wasn't going slow!

We also got to the top a half hour before everyone else. Don Thuren has the Kings dialed in perfectly for my style of wheeling. They soak up all the annoying s//t on the trail.
