Quick question on tire pressures

I was lucky enough to have the tire tech not only ignore my instructions of 40/35psi with the new tires, but also ignore MFG spec of max 50psi, when he inflated mine to 65/80. How thoughtful of him. They even balanced three out of four wheels, too!

Because they assume we are not smart enough to remember to add tire pressure when we decide to carry 6200lbs on our rear axle.

Most likely. Most people overload their trucks without realizing it. I know lots of guys with anti-WD hitches who didn't realize they have to adjust the hitch and their shit ain't set up right or even distributed.

FWIW, I'm running 50psi front and 45psi rear with my 305/70/17 Toyo's and tire wear seems even. When I first put the Toyo's on I was running factory pressures and I had uneven tire wear (center of tread wearing faster than edge).

I'll have to get my tread depth gauge out and measure my tread, front and back, inside, center, and outside. I still have the original tires on the PW and have essentially always run 65 PSI min front and back. A little data will do us well here...

The tires have been rotated once so far (the dealer rotated them at the oil change last year). Rear tires (now on the front) wear evenly and faster than the front if your towing heavy. Front tires still seem to wear the edges faster even at 65 psi.

I have to agree with Bill2014, as far as tire pressure goes for the stock tires. I have been running 62-65 up front and the damn things still look like they could use more air. It seems like I can get away with a bit less out back because I rarely am loaded up or towing anything. But they go right back up to max PSI when I hook the trailer up.

I have just over 17K miles on my tires now and they are wearing perfectly as far as contact patch goes. Tread depth seems to be a bit lower than I would have anticipated at this mileage, but then again I am just going by the eye-ball as I don't have a fancy depth gauge tool like Bill! They look pretty good yet until I look under the truck at the spare!
