so the hardwire switches can been done with only a code on the dash?

what about smart bar use while locking with switches, wouldnt the fault stop the disconnect

The Smartbar is not capable of being operated independently the way it is currently configured. You either have to live with the 18MPH limit, disconnect one of the links, or run a Thuren bar. The engine code should only appear when the lockers are engaged with the switches.

Actually >>> https://www.offroadevolution.com/produc ... ct-jk-jku/

It will work with ours, we've been discussing it. It just disengages the swaybar manually instead of the electrical plunger. What codes that will throw, well the one person with it (GTOMike) hasn't installed it yet. I'm probably going to pick it up myself, I'm curious about it.

I was going to run a homemade disconnect on front and rear for PWIM this year. Last year I saw a pretty good improvement running the rear disconnected as far as droop goes.

I meant you can't operate the Smartbar independently using electronic overrides. With the manual plug it will throw a Service 4WD code. A member here (Will) has one. The reason I didn't buy one was because 1. I hate the stock SB spring rate 2. I don't want codes.

I installed quick disconnects and separate locker switches for my JKUR. All the factory buttons still worked just fine... although I never did use them anymore once I installed the other switches and the disconnects. Still tempted to do that with my truck. If all I would get is a little dash light, well then so be it.

Manual disconnect on the endlink is probably the best way to go. No codes.

If you remove the smartbar module from the bar itself (3 bolts) and mount it out of the way, you can use the offroad evolution disconnect without throwing any code whatsoever

Don't forget about this option for a pushbutton, air operated sway bar disconnect. However it does require OBA, but seems much more convenient than laying under your truck, screwing a knob in & out.

In Mikekey's situation, he'll always have a code or warning light due to damaged SmartBar module pins. I wonder if it would be possible to make a trip to the dealer and have them reprogram the CAN to ignore the final drive control module/SmartBar, resulting in no lights or codes? Then he could hardwire everything.

What you just said there.........is LIGHTYEARS beyond 90+% of all dealers. Sorry, but that is the sad reality. I told my dealer it was probably the "rear locker assembly" that needed to be replaced..........they ended up saying "no, it was the rear locker actuator assembly that needed to be replaced !!!" Also, the ONLY thing the dealer will do as far as computers is, to reflash with an "authorized factory reflash." They will not even entertain anything else. All 3 dealers by me are of the same mindset.

I actually don’t have any codes. It’s as if if it’s simply dead as a door nail right now. Pretty odd.

I actually drove around for a couple weeks with the smartbar connector unplugged and never threw a code or had any strange symptoms at all.

I took a look at that Evo disco a while back, it’s not exactly in a convenient spot to fumble with. A lot of cacti around here, I’m not fond of crawling under my truck while out exploring. If somebody could figure out how to wire that disconnect with an electric motor to turn the knob that can be actuated from inside the cab with a toggle switch, you may have something. This plus a locker bypass and ABS circuit on a switch and you’ve pretty much de-nannified yourself! It’s a nice dream, but until then, I’ll keep pulling a link out to make my truck drive like a truck instead of a street car.

I am going to tackle this project next weekend. Decided this is the route I want to pursue. I'll be wiring in two switches to manually turn them on anytime I want.

I will probably add one. Been digging through this thread for awhile. First will be a working prototype, then I’ll order loom and stuff and do the final install.

I did a cable actuation setup on a smart bar. Worked very well. Never got around to installing a lever in the cab but pulling the cable worked the same. I ended up just ditching the sway around all together later though

I remember those cable acuated CAD kits for the old 2nd gen dodges. I bet some of the pieces from one of those kits could be utilized for the sway bar disconnect.

It’s hard to beat air actuators for the smartbar. Evo mfg has a nice one for about $200.

I shouldn't be typing so late at night, LMAO. So next Saturday will be my big project day, buttoning up all the last minute stuff on the Power Wagon in prep for my "vacation" to Moab.

I'll be sure to document some stuff in time and try to get it up for anyone else. I've been looking over this thread and playing with my voltmeter. I think, maybe.... I might just be able to build a smart bar bypass using 5 relays a few resistors and still use the factory OEM knob. I might go ahead and do the manual rubicon disconnect too. With my high-clearance bumper, there is no crawling under my truck. I can bend over and touch my smart bar.

So for me, it'd just be a routine at the trailhead when I air down. And if I'm off the pavement, I'd prefer the damn thing disconnected all day anyhow.
