If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

snorkel guys .. need your input

Post by DocPaulo » Sun Jan 07, 2018 2:56 pm

I live in dusty AZ and the aev raised intake with precleaner

My question is did it cause a lot of wind noise on highways? How much does it block your view?

Anybody regret doing it? Its a one way street and im keeping the truck long term, but want to make sure i factor everything in.

Thanks

I have the Ram Air, and surprisingly, ZERO noise. Like it's not even there. It also does not block your view unless you lean forward and look to your right. It might, in that case, hide a pedestrian. It is a little noticeable, but more like a black blob that wasn't there before. But not view blocking in any way. It fits that pillar very tightly. But otherwise, AEV designed a perfect product.

I have one on a 3G. The wind noise is a little more. Looking in that direction. The pillar looks thicker. Scraping snow and ice off the windshield takes a little more time. Because you have to pull it to the side, then down.

Perfect would have moved the air filter so we could mount a second battery in the same location as the diesel trucks.

That would be awesome... i have dual alts and dual batts would be nice...

It really wouldnt be that difficult but probably just too small a market...

To the other replies, thanks... thats the info im looking for

Yeah, again zero impact. No improvement, not decrease. Mostly looks. I extended my breathers and taped it up.

Understandable... but is it really any cleaner a few feet higher?

Probably not that much although it does make a small impact...

Im more interested in the prefilter....

the cyclonic precleaner appears to work really well.. there are videos on youtube showing how much dust that thing can spin out

As opposed to the intake in the inner fender? I have to think the snorkel air path would have less dirt in it assuming you aren't driving through a Haboob.

I actually have noticed I have to clean the filterless, especially since I made sure it's all sealed.

I would imagine if you keep the stock unit and use the pre-filter it should stay cleaner. Interesting observation, you can hear the intake sucking from outside the vehicle if you stand by it when it's idle. :)

If you stand next to their lift you can hear it sucking too.
