I have same set up on my 2012, they work flawlessly. I sprang for the wireless remote compressor. So long as you don't need them set to different Psi's I recommend them. Airing up or down is at the push of a button.

I might just wait for that DamageWagon. Would be fun! I'll buy beer and pizza! I really just need it done before hunting season so i can get my articulation back!
Bluchalk, I have a portable air compressor i use for airing my tires up and down in the field. Adjusting the airbags too isn't going to be a big deal i don't imagine. If I'm just going for a weekend i just leave everything inflated and i have a fullsize compressor in the garage for trip prep.
I wouldn't be doing any of this if i had to stop by a gas station for air, that's for damn sure. That's why i went Timberns the first time around.

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Great thread! With looking to have a boat this time next year and an expected trailer load of 10,000lbs this is exactly what I had planned for my truck. I will be removing that spacer for sure on mine. Based on what you've stated with the bags being able to lift the truck just shy of 1" of max droop sounds to me like that spacer needs to go. Also, would be nice to be able to leave air in my bags on times when going on many fishing trips if that's an option.

Any update on the bags w/Daystar cradles? I just bought a 2017 wagon and want to be able to tow around 10K +/-

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Well, we were in a bit of a hurry and I didnt really have any time to tinker with the setup, but all seems to work well. Only towed it about 20 miles or so. Going by memory (which, according to my wife, SUCKS), the truck seemed to do less "bouncing" up and down in the back, although it never really did it too much anyway. To my surprise, the truck actually looked fairly level yet before adding any air to the bags, but maybe that was because the trailer was basically empty? A quick squirt from my small air compressor (and i mean real quick) bumped the pressure up to 40PSI and lifted the back of the truck just over an inch. I may need to add more air when the trailer is loaded up and has more tongue weight, I am not sure, but the bags are rated for 100PSI so that is not an issue.
I snapped a quick pic with no air in the bags and one with 40PSI. Not sure if the difference is even noticeable in the pics, though.
Hope to have some more input about this setup soon. I am going on a dads n lads camping trip with the setup this weekend, but its only about 15 miles down the road. But, I think it is going to work great at keeping the truck level as well as stiffening up the rear suspension when towing heavy.
On a side note, I think I need to adjust my weight distribution hitch now. The bars went on so much easier for some reason (before I even put any air in the bags). I also have to lower the hitch a bit more, as the front of the trailer is essentially and inch or two higher now than it was before.

Would love to see some pics of a load without a WD hitch. I would imagine the bags become far more useful in that situation.

Yeah, I suppose they would. But, what bags DONT do it distribute much needed weight back onto the front axle. That is the key to the WD hitches.NickTF wrote:Would love to see some pics of a load without a WD hitch. I would imagine the bags become far more useful in that situation.

Pics with no WD hitch or air in bags...
The front of the truck raised up roughly a .5", while the rear lowered roughly 1.5".
Pics with WD hitch connected but no air in bags...
The front of the truck was basically back to unloaded height, and the rear was still 1" lower.
Pics with WD hitch and 45lbs in the bags...
The front height raised back up roughly 1/8"-1/4" from unloaded height, and the rear was 1/4" higher than unloaded height.

I would leave the spacer off if I were to do it again, it seems to hit the built in snubbers to easily, otherwise it works great. Currently planning an OBA system to inflate the bags so I can inflate in cab, instead of using the Schrader valves.

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
I don't think I would change a thing. Been using them quite a bit this summer. Everything works great.
As far as the spacer goes, I am not completely sure if it is needed yet or not. I have had no issues with the spacer. I have a feeling if I took the spacer out the bags would still support loads just fine with normal air pressure. What I don't know, though, is if it would essentially be too short of a bumpstop and cause issues with the stock shocks or springs getting over-compressed (but I kind of doubt that).
One thing I would like to do is get the on-board air set-up with in-cab adjustability.

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
Okay. Finished the install today and a big thanks to DamageWagon! Definitely do NOT use the spacer. It needs to come out for sure. I measured the factory bump stop with spacer vs the airbag jounce with all hardware installed and both came to 3 5/8 inches. So assuming that jounce is as hard as it felt the bump stop effect is equal to factory without the spacer. If you add the spacer I think you have about 3/4 inch extra bumpstop.
We found a GREAT place to run the hoses, up the frame and into two metal pre existing holes below the tailgate but above the bumper. So no drilling. I also added some Alligator V2B fittings instead of the black platic caps. I use them on all my truck and RV tire fittings so I used them here too.
We didn't end up installing the Daystar craddles. I'm still not 100% sure this was a great idea but the airbag hits this giant square bump pad. Not sure it could possibly miss the pad. Thoughts? We didn't install the bottom bracketry either, so its just feee hanging and sitting on the bump pad. I'll post some pics.

Adding pictures. And yes the tailgate easily clears the air fill points.
Oh and FYI there is now a Ultimate 5000 Plus that comes with stainless steel hardware and braided air hoses. Probably unnecessary but it's available.

Soooo... there is now a subtle sqeak when i turn. I think its the metal on metal of the bolt holes in the bottom of the airbags and the bumpstop pads. Looks like I'll be adding in the Daystar craddles. Oh well, live and learn and now we all know the right way to do this. It was worth a shot. i really just didn't want to drill and tap the bumpstop pad. Back at it!!!

Maybe you can mount the cradles to the bottom of the bags, instead of the top of the bump-stop pad? I'm not sure how or how well that would work, though.TankerZak wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:09 pmSoooo... there is now a subtle sqeak when i turn. Maybe I will pull out the spacer blocks on mine if it works well enough without them, and it doesn't cause issues with too much compression.

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+
If filling the air bags to near max psi, how little drop have you been able to achieve with a heavy load (either tongue weight or payload)? With my timbrens, the truck still sags a good bit loaded (7500lb boat and trailer) but with factory suspension not enough to where the rear isn't a bit higher than the front. I'd like to level my truck at some point and with the timbrens i'd either need to use the supplied 3/4" spacer which means I'd have very little rear articulation or replace them with airbags assuming they'd do what I need to keep the truck level with the boat on the back of it. Taking timbrens on and off is not an option i'd consider.

The heaviest tongue load I have hauled is probably my buddy's Jeep (no WD hitch) along with roughly 600# of gear in the back of the bed. Not really sure what the overall tongue load was, but I only had 30# in the bags and I was sitting level (I have a 1.5" coil spacer up front). The bags go to 100# if I remember correctly.NickTF wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2017 10:00 amIf filling the air bags to near max psi, how little drop have you been able to achieve with a heavy load (either tongue weight or payload)? The bags go to 100 psi and they are taller than the Timbrens i took off. Airbags are just flat out better. Truck rides better empty, rides better loaded, and shouldn't sag as much because they are taller. And you get full articulation when bags are empty. It's really a no brainer. I should have never done Timbrens. I gave mine to DamageWagon. Hope it works for him offsetting the weight of his camper. But for someone who runs unloaded then tows heavy. Airbags. Especially if you already air up and down anyway. I run my tires at 45 psi front / 40 psi rear. So throwing air in and removing from the bags isn't a big deal. I already have the compressor out.
