2015 PW Tradesman 6.4 is Chirping and whistling

Post by Superjustable » Tue Aug 29, 2017 2:09 pm

Hi all, I'm a newby to this form but I've been a long time lurker for sure. Ive got a little issue with noise coming from my engine specifically from under the plastic cover on top -but not 100% sure that's where it comes from. I only have about 20K on the engine. I can't really hear this noise when the windows are up. I've noticed it's gotten worse and checked under the hood last evening and it's definitely there. My question ;have you new owners experienced this as well, and what might it be? Thanks

Is it still under warranty?
Maybe it's a vacuum leak or a pulley bearing. It's just speculation without being able to hear it first hand.
You might be able to narrow it down by holding a short length of hose up to your ear and moving the other end around the the engine to pinpoint it.
Good luck! :patriot:

If it's a bad idler pulley bearing (fairly common) it can come apart and leave you stranded on the side of the road have it checked/replaced as soon as possible.

I had the same noise with my 2015 Laramie. Dealer 1sr thought it was the belt tensioner pulley and changed it. Noise was still there. He then thought it was the alternator and order a new one. Noise never went away. He then noticed that the water pump shaft had some play and changed that. Noise then went away. It was very persistent at low rpms. Luckily it was all covered under warranty

Thank you so much for the reply’s sorry so long to respond back at you. Took the truck to the dealership and they found a bad water pump bearing. Fixed under warranty 👍
