Nice looking truck. I did 25 years in 7th Special Forces Group and retired less than two years ago. I plan on getting a custom tailgate emblem from these guys: http://www.billetbadges.com/ to commemorate my service.Duke wrote:It's from my service in 5th Special Forces Group, hence the crest in the corner. Carried the same theme on the tailgate. It's hard to see in the photos but the tailgate letters have the topo lines in the letters to match the hood.

Let me know how it turns out. I would love to do the same. I would want the crossed arrows and dagger with a "5" in the center. Nice to see a fellow brother on here, De Oppresso Liber.
Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
Got one of the wheels welded up today. Welded it solid then ground and smoothed the inner wheel lip to perfection. Test fit the ring and it spun true. I think the only wheel balancing problems I will have will be due to the 32 grade 8 bolts, washers, and lock nuts. Very happy with the out come. I am going to finish the rest of the wheels tonight then send them to powder coat.

Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
Very clean! Nice welds, but more importantly, nice work overall. Did you design this all out or are these standard parts you had cut/made? How much cash do you have into the beadlock conversion? It looks like the inner and outer rings are the same diameter, so no provision is made for a double beadlock correct?
Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
I am no stranger to rock crawlers, I have had a bunch. In the tube chassis rock crawler game you have to have true beadlocks to run crazy low tire pressures. My last samurai had 43 inch tires on H1 beadlocks I ran zero tire pressure. Being in the rock crawler game I have learned a few things. On our trucks 20 psi is sufficient for all but the craziest trails and I have had great luck running Toyo M/T's at this pressure without popping a bead. That being said I was more concerned with the overall strength of the wheel lip. I decided to build a hybrid wheel, not a true beadlock but a wheel with a wheel stiffener that I could bolt a beadlock ring to. Let's face it beadlock wheels are sexy but I don't like checking air pressure on my daily driver every morning I start it. I think of small diameter beadlock wheels like most guys think of their 20+ inch billet wheels. On the cost side this project hasn't been cheap. Machine shop cost, beadlock ring cost, powder coating, and a shit load of grade 8 nuts bolts and washers make for a pretty expensive 17 inch steel wheel. But at the end of the day I have exactly what I want, built the way I want it, and in the color I want. Plus I have the pride in knowing I designed and built my own wheels that no one else has. I believe the "do it yourself attitude" of past generations is fading fast. I want to show how it can still be done.

Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
I finished all the wheels last night and dropped them off at the powder coaters. Should be done today, I will post photos later tonight after I put them together. Until then here is another project I knocked out. I replaced the front and rear rotors and pads with the best EBC has to offer.

Those Beadlocks are looking awesome. But the hood!

Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
Love my EBC's! After driving with them, all the other trucks i drive without them feel like they are about to loose their brakes. Follow the break in procedure and you will lock all four tires with them.Duke wrote:I finished all the wheels last night and dropped them off at the powder coaters. Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
That's more of a 'rock ring' with a true beadlock look but very cool indeed! I'm more interested in that EBC brake setup. My brakes are woefully inadequate now.

Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
Finished the Carli Suspension and mounted the wheels and tires today. Very happy with the outcome, now I can get some much deserved sleep.
I installed the complete Carli 3 inch lift to include upper and lower stabilizers, drop brackets, front and rear coil springs and track bar. I decided to hold off in the shocks and I am currently speaking with reps for Fox Racing and Bilstien about building me a 2.5 3 tube bypass shock for the front and a 2.5 2 tube for the rear.
Now for the pictures........

So tell us - How does it feel on the highway? How did you balance them? Any shimmy's or shakes?

Re: Factory Ram Steel Beadlock wheels
Very clean looking man! Nice shop, however the heck you got in there haha.
I would really spend time researching shocks if you're going to get customs made. Remember you can only run pintop shocks unless you want to fab new towers. Also 3-tubes are a waste of money. It just eases the transition into the bump zone, but it's almost impossible to feel. More of a "my buddy has a 3-tube so I want one too" kind of thing. Spend that money on something that lets you go faster

You may as well just go straight to 3.0's. it'll be easier and cheaper in the long run.
