Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
Sorry, I hate when people say this... Have you ever actually driven one? What about it makes it a boat? The fact that its 10% heavier than a comparable (if there even is such a thing) Mustang or Camaro?MikeKey wrote:Congrats on buying a boat.
I've driven both the Challenger and Charger Hellcat's. They're not track day cars... But they were never meant to be. Either is an M5, E63, or S6 (comparing to the Charger), no matter what anyone says. Do they handle better than the Charger, arguably, yes, and they better for what they charge for them. Are they faster in a straight line, from a dig, or a roll? Probably not (dig comes down to the driver).
The Mustang and Camaro are lighter, and handle better, sure. That's great. They also are unlivable if you have a kid, dogs, golf clubs, or a need to check your blind spot... The Challenger is a daily drivable car that can actually haul passengers, and golf clubs, and you can actually see over your shoulder. It's a Grand Touring car.
Comparing it to a Mustand or Camaro is like comparing a K1600GTL to an S1000RR, or a Concours 14 to the ZX-10R... Yeah, they're both motorcycles, but with totally different purposes in mind.

Yes. It's handling compared to say a Chevy SS. Relax, it's a joke. I'm a car guy too. Geesh. We were just looking at a matching Charger since I really like the new styling.13BlkPowerWagon wrote:Sorry, I hate when people say this... Have you ever actually driven one? Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
The Hellcat Charger is awesome. I tried really hard to talk my wife into a Scat Pack Charger as a third vehicle (we don't have vehicle payments) but she wasn't as exited by the vehicle as I was. Maybe I should have tried a Jeep Wranger Rubicon...

Challenger (i think) the fact the Charger is faster 0-60 & top speed has me 2nd guessing my decision. LUCKILY the car I was going to buy in CA was bought cash from under me during the negotiations, so I can step back and reassess.gtomike60 wrote:In the Challenger,or Charger variety?

I'm torn between the M6 & A8 (challenger only). A8 is better in the DC area traffic hell, is faster, better MPG(said snarkily), is more robust, and requires less mx. But the M6 isso much more fun to drive.
I am not a fan of the Charger HC from the rear. The HC charger is great from the front, way better than the non-HC Charger, and acceptable from the side. It's more practical as a daily/family car, but the back seat actually has less head room than the challenger. So not sure...

Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
So the HC is replacing my DD, a 2015 VW passat TDI SEL that VW is buying back on Monday, they are paying the Sept. 2015 (when the lawsuit started) KBB clean retail value + about $10K+ in damages. The car was basically paid for, so my wife said "get what you want, in 2 yrs give it to me, I'll either keep it, or trade it on a newer car I like" (she has a 10 yr old 325i).
So...here's what I've driven, some multiple times:
2015 SRT Jeep GC
2016 M6 Challenger HC
2016 GT350
2014 MB S63 AMG
2017 Vette GS (fun but only 2 seats)
HC drove all around the best & the SRT GC was a close second. The GT 350 was the funnest & best driving performance wise, but just took a lot of effort & really felt like a race car, just not pracrical. I've been stalking the HC & Chalkenger sites for 2 yrs now, gathering data, opinions (geeze, you think we are opinionated, and we are, our PW has a near 80 yr heritage , these muscle car dudes are nuts, super touchy & some are just idiots), and general impressions. I agree w/ the consensus--in an auto, the HC would be a really cool DD, & w/ the black key, you've got a SRT + 15HP that won't kill your wife, or you in the rain, and you can lock in a 300HP Valet mode so your knuckle Head 17yr old doesnt wrap it on a tree.

Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
One of my customers let me drive his Hellcat Challenger, it was fun for sure. Things I liked were obviously the powder but also the visibility out. Things I didn't like were the interior (it felt cheap). I much prefer the HC Charger from a looks standpoint. I sat in a HC Charger with the upgraded brown all leather interior and was very impressed. I would not buy the base model interior, my truck feels nicer. All that said, my customer bought his one year used with 1K miles for $48K. Now that they've been out a while their value is dropping. Congratulations on paying off your truck, I hope you find the perfect car (if there is such a thing).

Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
My wife has a BMW, the HC isnt the same, but honestly it's not far off. It's very similar to my PW, which i just plain like, and I like the xross platform familiarity. I agree w/ the better interior.Reloaderguy wrote:One of my customers let me drive his Hellcat Challenger, it was fun for sure. Things I liked were obviously the powder but also the visibility out. If your customer bought a '16 w/ 1K miles, I'd like to see the car, because that's about $7-$10K below KBB!! Did it have the Satin Hood ($2K), Carbon Fiber stripes ($1.5K), Auto ($3K), Sunroof ($2K), Brass Monkey Wheels ($1K), Perelli P-Zero racing tires ($700), Laguna Leather ($4K)?? I'm closing in on a B5 w/ all the above pvt seller for $55K, KBB $58.5K, sticker $73.5K. I've been copiously scanning 5 different aggregator sites daily for 3 wks, anything loaded under $55k is a deal.

Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
It has a satin hood, auto, and sunroof. He added the Brass Monkey wheels separately and were not part of the price he paid. The Laguna leather is the interior upgrade I was talking about and it does not have that. The interior of his car does not feel the same as my truck despite being similar. I brought up the interior because you said you were considering an M6 or A/S8. He purchased his car in the greater Seattle area.
Forgot to mention, he's had it a little while, it's a '15.

Re: Truck is paid...Cat's coming
Yeah, $48K for an auto '15 is still a decent deal. I'm looking at '16's, the interiors are irrespective of the trans. I want the M6, but it will be a pain in daily DC traffic, and the wife won't drive it even though she can drive a manual (i told her we can dial it back to 300HP in valet mode, she's afraid she would forget and roast it and spin out), and the A8 is more in demand (~130 2016 M6 available nationally on car guru, & less than 30 A8's)Reloaderguy wrote:It has a satin hood, auto, and sunroof. Ugh, I wouldn't want a manual in DC. I did that once for a few months. Hated it and I wasn't even in the main city since I was driving over between SAIC and Quantico every day.

The thing is the manual is so much more fun. Yea a big stall and an auto is faster but come on. The Manual is DO WHATEVER I WANT FREEDOM.

Seriously, as much as I love a manual, a manual would be ridiculous here, and the wife wouldn't be able to drive it, and she doesn't drive the PW either, so that essentially means I would have over $100K in vehicles she couldn't drive. The A8 is the only viable choice at this juncture...but the next one will be a manual.

At least it will be fast. I guess that's something. I'm missing not having a manual right now. It kinda got old living in Florida and driving through Tampa traffic, but out west man, I just keep thinking, wish I was driving something with a stick shift.

Yes, definitely post pictures! I daily a Jeep tj with a manual, but I don't live anyplace that has traffic. City driving is far more relaxing in an auto for sure. You're gonna have a real fine stable going soon

In the right hands. A HC will go around a road course, with little trouble. Last year. I got to watch one from behind for a couple of laps until his stock brake pads went south. I was better on the brakes, entry, mid turn, exit. Couldn't match him once he got straight.
