Thuren Track Bar Clunk/Binding

Post by TommyG » Wed May 31, 2017 9:24 pm

We just installed a Thuren track bar and control arms on my truck. It is a 2012 and the rest of the suspension/tires are stock.

I am getting a sensation like something is binding up then releasing when making low speed, tight turns. It feels like it is coming from the driver's side. I doubled checked center to center length tonight and verified that everything it tight.

The truck drives great on the road. It feels more planted and the steering feels more precise. I had it aligned after we got everything done and that went fine.

Has anyone else had this issue with theirs?

I emailed Thuren tonight after re-checking torque and measurements also.

37s are here and I am set to have them installed next Tuesday. I really want to run this down and make sure everything is right before I throw new tires on.

That sounds like the most likely suspect. Look for play, rust, or anything else out of the ordinary.

210. The impact wrench I put them on with will do up to 400. It is tight. We re-torqued them just to be sure.

Trackbar torque spec is:

Three fat kids with a 6' breaker bar. Ditch your impact and do it by hand so you know. The same goes for your control arms. Do it BY HAND.

Axle u-joint is also possible but I don't see a parts install immediately leading to noticing that, unless you honestly could have missed that before.

Wild guess, but did you tighten your steering box or do anything to it during this work?

Didn't touch the steering.

Going to hit the shop this weekend to check the u joints and re-verify torque on everything. Will let everyone know what we find.

Thanks again everyone.

The simplest explanation is usually the right one. It went away after two more rounds of driving and re-torquing everything then doing it agan. Nothing was particularly loose but a couple of bolts need minimal amounts both times. Going to keep checking everything periodically to make sure it is all staying tight.
