He stated control arms, so I would assume he has a '13 or older (newer ones have radius arms). The control arm trucks are even more prone to rubbing than the newer radius arm ones.

MPG seems about the same, but I've not reflashed the computer. Of course it reads lower, but speedo is off about 8-10mph now. I do offroad and tow a lot.

Its off by a percentage. Probably around 10% or so. So at 20 mph its not that far off, but at 80 mph, yeah quite a ways off.

Had to trim a lot of the wheel well plastic, had to beat back the corner of the metal, trimmed the bumper as well. I only added a 1.5" leveling spacer (for now). I do off road a lot and get full flex when disconnected. In that case, it does still rub a little. 37x12.50 I've heard have less rubbing. THE LOOK is perfect though. Here's the latest, since adding the rear bumper.

35" spare in factory 2015

Post by dkjager » Wed Apr 19, 2017 9:05 pm

Here's more detail on my spare: It's about 1.5" shorter than the Toyo's I have mounted (see photo). My "plan" is to air it up to 70lb which will bulge it out. I run 30-40 normally on the Toyo's, 15-18 off road. That should put them about 3/8" apart which I think is fine for dead heading home. Now, for mounting, you can see not much room at all. First you have to bend back the heat shield a bit (I laid on my back and pushed with my feet to get it done). Next, when you jack it up, be sure it is flat to slightly up towards the hitch (back) and frame (driver side). To mount a 37x12.50, a worn down one, moving the hitch back may work, plus, you'll be touching the heat shield and muffler for sure.

Thanks! I'm still struggling with the truck driving to the right. It is worse under braking and towing (with EQ hitch). I've micro adjusted it 50 times. Going to get it up on a rack soon but I wonder if something else is stressing the suspension causing it to drift to the right. Thuren adj track bar made no difference. New rims made no difference, tire size no difference. It was from the 1.5" spacer and/or shock extension that did it.

Did you loosen all of the radius arm bolts before installing the spacers and then tighten them with the full weight of the truck on the ground?

I have a 1.5" spacer and dont have any issues with veering. Drives just like it did without the spacer. I did not loosen the radius arm bolts either.

On a side note, I did not use the shock spacers they sent. Why they send 2.5" shock extensions with a 1.5" spacer kit is beyond me. When I ran the numbers, it appeared the shocks would bottom out long before the stock bumpstops would be used. Sounds like a recipe for damaged shocks and/or ripped off shock mounts.

A lot of good info on Thurens Tech Page. I dont have all the info on what you have tried, but these trucks are very sensitive to alignment issues, and some tires do have a pull built into them. Thuren also has a really nice king dampener as well??

got the alignment done, however, the settings ended up being beyond what thuren recomended. I didn't do anything with the radius arms, might do that as well. The tech that did the alignment also installed an offset ball joint but I'm still not sure why that fixed it, but it did.

Bumper looks great! On the ball joint I know a few companies make a 1 Degree offset Ball Joint for Camber, meaning you can lean the top of the tire in or out. Mine has more Camber on the 1 side, top is leaned out, but everyone keeps telling me it within spec for these trucks. It drives fine so for now ill live with it.
I know I have read threads in other forums before where to much Camber on these trucks eats front tires, but not much you can do, let us know after some time how the Ball Joint is holding up, do you know what make it is ? I know Carli is testing there ball joints for the newer trucks now, I am hoping the have a little Camber adjust ability to them...

Truck looks great!!
