Ram Poser Wagon

Post by Bill2014 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 8:30 pm

I finally got to see a Poser Wagon in the wild. I heard they exist, but now I have proof. I saw this beauty on the Northway this evening weaving through traffic at about 80 mph. Notice the mirrors tipped out in full display.

That's funny, because I ordered my 16 debadged. There's nothing on it that says power wagon.

Hey, at least it's the proper badging for a Laramie. So many think the Power Wagon should have a diesel, wonder how many think it should be a dually too.

You would see power wagons everywhere if there was a diesel option. Diesel, lockers, winch, smooth ride? Everyone and their grandma would have one, so it's kind of cool that they're rare.

That's pretty funny. I'm glad PWs are "rare" otherwise it would be a watered down meaningless label like "FX4."

Love my Hemi, but maaaan I'd love this truck with a smaller diesel option. Not like I care to tow a house with this thing, but I'd love the extended range. Currently I carry 4 fuel jugs on trips, and very seriously looking into the Titan spare tire fuel tank.

I want to know if you get that working. I've been thinking about it too. That would double the range.

I'm not sure if FCA would come up with another diesel engine, but it seems a naturally aspirated diesel might be the right compromise for the Power Wagon. Our trucks already weigh a lot, can't get the winch in there with the intercooler too. But thinking about how the Eco-Diesel worked out, maybe they could. But I doubt they would. Would be cool though.

It was actually quite comical watching this guy drive. His accelerator was either full on or full off. Rolling coal and pulling away, or slowing down and coasting. Haven't we all seen this "type" on the highway? Classic!

I definitely will, realistically i think maybe sometime at the end of summer I may pull the trigger on it. I spoke to Titan directly about it not long after buying the truck and seeing what my range was, they said it'll work with gas but it's not "legal"... and you'd have to cut a hole somewhere for the second filler neck, either inside the bed (best option imo) or in the bedside.

It would probably feel like a total slug but even the eco diesel would be cool. I know there are major packaging constraints among other obstacles but it would have been neat to see a variation of the 5.0 Cummin(g)s that the Titan got. No idea about size, size reliability or performance of those though.

I jumped the idea around in my head since I'm pulling the engine of dropping in a smaller Cummins like the 3.3QSB, but the interaction with the factory controls and wiring would be so nuts there's really no way to do it unless you completely separate the engine from the computer. There is a dude currently dropping an 8.3 cummins in place of his 6.7 though, so maybe it is doable? I believe they all share a common control logic now in terms of computers and sensors. Factory option is almost exclusively the only way to do it now though. Even swapping a 6.7 for the 5.7 is a massive undertaking and you essentially have to replace everything except the cab and frame of the truck.

Let me know how that Titan progresses. I'm surprised they answered your question, I've heard from guys that if you mention gas applications they will straight hang up the phone in you

I may end up doing a 6.4 swap if I can find any info on it being don before.

Ram Poser Wagon

Post by yellowranger1 » Tue Apr 18, 2017 3:13 pm

Haha the response from Titan was a hushed "you didn't hear it from me" response. He said the tank and pump are marketed for diesel applications, but a pump is a pump and a liquid is a liquid, and he can't control what application the buyer uses it for.

Not exactly "a pump is a pump and a liquid is a liquid", but gasoline and diesel are both compatible with nitrile or viton seals, and if that's what Titan is using in their stuff then should be good to go. Anybody remember the bathtub and acid scenes from Breaking Bad? Yeah. . . gotta pay attention to chemical compatibility. A liquid is not a liquid.

Well...Diesel is combustible and gas is HIGHLY flammable so an auxiliary gasoline tank would be a bad idea.

Weird. Ford thought having 2 tanks back in the day was just fine. Gas or diesel. Really you have a tank already back there. What's another 20 gal gonna hurt. She's gonna blow then just run faster.

Yes but if you install a tank for a gasoline vehicle then you're fine. The jeep gc tank may almost fit perfectly where the spare tire sits. I have a new tank for a late 70s Ford truck. It's the second rear tank. 17 gal. Measures perfectly between the frame rails in the rear. Plan on installing it this year. But I think the gc jeep tank would have worked too. It's bigger.

I carry 30 gallons in military fuel cans when I head towards interior Alaska. If I planned on being up here long term I'd be looking at something more permanent. Siphoning 5 gallons at a time is a pain.
